Having just taken about 5-6 hours to change out the fuel filter as part of my 30K service, I'd like to nominate whoever designed those "quick" connectors for immediate banishment to the land of heck. Had all the correct tools but those frigging things were solid after ten years. Moved the dry sump tank for better access, no luck, moved the transaxle cooler for better access, and that was better. Wiggle twist and push for ages before I achieved success.
At least I can work on it myself though, I can't even figure out how see the engine on the McLaren!

There's gotta be some trick way to get those out a lot easier. Maybe the GT guys in chime in.

I had to do this a few months ago and it's simple if you have the right tool. There was a lot of misinformation about the size. Please review this posting, Jay:

Regardless, it took the GT Guys 30 min to do mine. Move the tranny cooler.

I did mine b4 Rally X. It was a PITA as described by Mongrel. At least it's 30k miles till the next time!

And everyone one is just going to replace it with the same PITA filter again? I think I hear a Ford engineer laughing somewhere. Get a canister with a replaceable element that just opens up while still attached. It can't be that expensive.

Thanks Stormcat. Yes our tool is very efficient. It takes more time to remove the engine belly pan than to take out the filter. The engine belly pan comes off to reduce the amount of "spilled" fuel and we move the oil tank out of the way for access. We usually do the fuel filter job while we are doing other work so the pan is off anyway. With our tool it usually only takes a few minutes to change out the filter.
