:bang:slap it's obvious - you have been trained to be a sexual harasser Franky - Good One!

You are implying that "hardest person", "easiest" and "do it" are sexual terms. I certainly would have never guessed that and am mortified by the ASSociation.

?
why was the exhaust not the bundle of snake design?

That one's easy to answer: insufficient room.

(Besides, because the GT is supercharged, there was no NEED from an exhaust efficiency standpoint.)

2 questions - Please.

1) How close was the decision to build the GT vs. the '49 Ford as Ford's choice of it's centennial car?

2) How did the GT ever get approved (through Ford 'legal' and 'financial' functions) for production?

Hint: the answers may not be so obvious, while some names are consistently credited, there are a few opinion leaders & contributors that decided to take the risk. Send them a Holiday card and Thank them! :wink

Oh, and #3 for extra credit: I don't expect anyone to actually answer, but what was the program budget for the car and did it break even (financially)?

Think I heard it was the roll up windows because of the shape / angle of the door and still keeping true to the design. We'll see.

I remember reading an article stating that very fact. It was a REAL BEAR figuring out just how to accomplish that.

Other than the axle bolts failing;

What items/systems have been most "problematical" in the service life of the GT's?

And which items/systems have been a performance "surprise"?

Still love my GT with 70k on the o.d. No squeaks or rattles to date. Still solid as a rock.

Thanks Ford!

The Real Story:

The truth is in the Target 200 Video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKOtbmV5Adk

I was the Data Geek at the test. And we used a V-box GPS Speedo to document MPH.
And it is hard to cheat the satellite network.

211.8 MPH is the actual number (That with CP15 completely factory intent stock).
And as I remember it had nearly 30K miles on the clock.

I also used a Pi Research (brand name) data logger to document all other critical parameters.
Just like we did during all on car testing.

I can't believe you guys have not aged since that video! You all look exactly the same!

Here is some PI data from the high speed testing. Note this is PI data so speed is on the high side. The reason we went with the Focus column is that it has tilt and telescoping, dual stalks and good for modal vibration. It is a very good column no matter what car it is installled in. We talked to Michelin very very early on but Goodyear wanted to be on the car and made sure they got the business.

Mark,
Thank you too for actual inside graphical data of your Vmax run. Hearing true-to-life stories of the development of our cars from the likes of you, Alex, Tom, Fred, Camilo, Kip, Rich, Dennis, etc. is what makes this forum such a special place for all us owners.

The graphical data in the time range of 445 thru 590 seconds is of interest. Your throttle position indicates you were at Wide Open Throttle (WOT) during the period and thus it appears there was no transmission gear changes. Most probably in 5th gear. Yet during this same time period there was a significant slope change in the acceleration (delta velocity / delta time). The acceleration rate to Vmax between 445 - 480sec is significantly different than the acceleration between 480-570sec when you achieved 212 mph. Since aero drag is a "speed squared" function one would think the acceleration rate would follow a typical square function throughout the full time spectrum (445-590) and not show two distinct linear rates through the Vmax accel period.
Any thoughts on what gave you the "extra acceleration" during this run?

fuzzy dice do it for me.

I'd like to know if the designers felt like they use any significantly new technology on the GT (besides the pressed aluminum A-arms)?

Two questions for Camillo specifically regarding styling.

Camillo,

Although the original GT40s had two openings in the front deck lid to exhaust radiator fan air, the GT40s that raced at Le Mans had a single larger opening in that front deck lid.

1. Was there a reason other than styling (you preferred the look) that you chose the two opening design other than a single opening race car design for the new Ford GT?
____________________________

I have read that most of the aerodynamic work was confined to the bottom of the car so that the signature look of the GT40 could remain intact. So my second question is.....

2. After wind tunnel testing was finished were there any changes incorporated into the shape of the body panels to improve aerodynamics other than the addition of the wicker to the rear spoiler?

Second Set:

1. Was traction control ever on the table?

2. Was having two gas lids ever considered?

3. Was there a 3rd wheel style: Borani Spoke, Real knock off, etc

4. Was the sliding gas cap meachanism voted down /up?

5. Was another interior color an option: Tan, Grey, Red?

6. Was a Roadster considered?

7. Any guage option deleted?

8. What cool cost saves ensured owners kit: leather manual, air pump, cover, charger?

9. Any cool overides: brake & accelerator; WOT governor; reverse lockout; limp

10. Who shut down the GT40 trademark owner who wanted $ millions?

2. Was having two gas lids ever considered?

Yes it was. Someone posted here on The 'Forum that it was dropped because of pblms a second one created regarding the fuel vapors/emmissions system...and I think also there was a "routing" pblm to the tank from the driver's side. Anyway - it was dropped due to something like that.

Did they ever consider adding a 1/100th digit to the odometer for owners like EP?

7. Any guage option deleted?

Yes - a low fuel light that was spelled correctly. When the light comes on, notice the spelling.

Gotta love it - 160K car that needed spelling corrections :cheers
