Tachometer Stopped Working

OK, then, Rich. Piece of cake, sounds like a DIY project. :lol

Bit like saying "it's easy, unclip the engine and remove it" :lol

I only know this because Rich and I had this discussiion last fall before the Rally.

Well I guess if I ever need that done, my FGT will get shipped to Shadowman.

Thank you BlackICE for the shared confidence.

I do not see it as a difficult process but rather one that would take a bit of time and IMO attention to detail to insure that the assembly process had only to be completed once.

For anyone interested, there is a new tach for sale on eBay for $995.

I could not be happier with seeing my tach move and my GT getting a 100+ boost of HP :eek

Glad the experts got everything working again for you. :thumbsup :cheers

So, what was the trick with getting the tach to work? Did you just install a new one? Same with oil pressure guage? Sounds like you didn't have any module problems, which is good. Hope they hold up, I'm still worried about the cause of failure.

Do you have the dead guages that you could send me? I need a dead one to figure out how to fix them.

The GT Guys keep the gauges for potential repair. I agree any way we can come up with a fix is critical to everyone in the GT community. I will send a message to Rich and John.:thumbsup

Thanks, Bill

So did you simply swap the defective ones with new ones and the problem was solved ?

Yes

After 32 pages, the best solution I could find for my broken tachometer was to buy a new one. So that's what I did. I was afraid to buy one off the internet because there would be no 12 month warranty that comes with the $1300 tach from the dealer. Given the chronic failures we have had, I didn't want to roll the dice.
Has anyone heard anything from Ford?

The GT Guys are working on solution. I believe they may be working with Autometer?:thumbsup Still need alternatives:eek

If someone can get me a tach I think I can get it working again. There really is nothing to lose. If someone gets me a broken tach you will either get it back working or in the same condition it is.

Gauge failures

Just to add my 3 failures to the list: Oil pressure gauge, manifold pressure/boost gauge and just last week the voltage gauge. Ford definitely needs to address this obvious design flaw wherever it lurks.:frown:frown

JLG-

Very sorry to hear this... I concur with you regarding this issue.

tempoaray temp guage

Had a nice chat with Bill aka Shadowman this afternoon. Until a cause is found for the guages failing and a subsequent fix, I'm going to wait on guage replacement. Of my two guages, the tach and the temp guage, we thought the temp guage is much more important for obvious reasons. So, I think what I will do in the mean time is get a mechanical temp guage with a probe style sender. Then strap the probe to one of the radiator hoses near the engine and run it to the new guage somewhere in the cockpit. Once I have a baseline, I'll know if I have an over heating problem. Bill thought the temp on the outside of the hose would probably only be 5 degrees or so from inside the hose.

Thats my plan for now. At least I would be able to monitor temps and not get into an overheat situation with out any warning.

That sucks.....but good for you for keeping her on the road

I enjoyed the chat

Now as for your plan; IMO it is sound and the thermal coupler attached to the hose will work fine; now whether 5-10 degrees difference between the surface of the hose versus the fluid within IMO is of only modest concern because as you stated a baseline to monitor your gal’s health is what you/all want.
