Street Tires for 2017/18 Ford GT

Thats what rain mode is for!!

You're an engineer and I'm sure you can look at the tire and understand the basics. As long as you have a tread pattern and some depth to channel out the water they're not going to go skipping around like slicks... don't believe the hype!! :biggrin. The rubber is super sticky.. in South Florida we live with daily summer rains , been stuck in the rain many times even on the interstate. Never an issue or a moment of concern. .

So Stormcat... Are you talking about the Dunlop tires in your remarks above or the OEM tires that came on the car

Brian and Ron... thank you for the comments. I only have 3000 miles on the tires with good tread and quite honestly I never really thought about WET MODE. But I will remember now.
Thanks,
Andy (ajb)

Yes, they work perfectly.
Same wheels, any info on tire changer/balancers. Most likely do mine on day 1

Tom.
Milliken and any new "GT Servicing Dealer, " was required to purchase new tire mounting equipment. Milliken's is on site and installed ready to use.

Doesn't prevent hydroplaning which I have experienced in my GT350R with SC2's and the aircraft I have flown. I put different tires on for personal peace...and because my Delivery Specialist said "When it rains, lose the keys"...my non-cents worth. :)

You may want to look for either a Corghi or Hunter touchless tire changer along with a Hunter Road Force balancer.

Thanks MTV8, I've never had CF wheels B4

The OEM Michelin tires are good in all conditions except extreme cold where the rubber will crack. The car has a wet mode which relaxes the throttle response and softens the shifts . It called wet mode and not park mode ..:biggrin The only reason to change tires is to reduce the rock throwing chariacterists of the OEM tires. There should be no concerns about driving the GT the way it come from the factory in the rain..

Any tire will hydro plane if the speed is greater than the channeling dispersion.. I think the Delivery specialist heard about your driving Skills .:biggrin . .. Love ya Mike !! No one has more rain than South Florida in the summer. I drove the car on the highway in the rain many times and drove at speeds in correlation with the amount of rain coming down as you would with any car.. .

Mosing, I think your history of alcohol abuse is well known in the community. When he said "Lose the keys" it was in reference to your drinking habits not the amount of water on the pavement.

Anybody look at Nitto's?

Ok. I am confident. Leaving Detroit for Atlanta next Thursday before dawn. See you there!

Not because of rain but concerns about cold temps, I purchased a set of BBS wheels and Nitto tires for winter use. I checked with Ford and went with a slightly smaller rear tire (293/30 20) the 325/30 20 was not available at the time. Even hauling the car to a wormer area could have damaged to the Michelin tires, say it was 10 DEG. when I leave home could cause damage. I have driven in a couple of hard rains with the Michelin tires with no concern, as Stormy said any tire can hydro plane, you just need to use common sense. Hated driving the car in hard rain but was cool to see how the water reacted to the aero of the car, what a site seeing the water moving and the roster tail it made.

Everyone wanted sticky tires for the '05-06 GT. Now, everyone wants a harder tire for the NGT! LOL

Not all Cup2 tires are made the same in terms of tread design, depth, compound, or construction.

The GT350R Cup2 is far more track/dry focused than the GT's tire, and the Z06 is one of the most aggressive tires Michelin makes, and it can be pretty hairy in the wet. Yet, I don't see many Z06 owner's at the local C&C change them out even when it rains almost every day here in FL.

lol. I saw some wanting a stickier tire to turn faster lap times in the NGT, which imo is in line with its purpose.

I'm with you, give me more sticky, I'm addicted!

Every servicing Dealer will have new tire changing equipment as required by Ford. I would not let just any tire co. or changer mount tires on my New GT. The servicing Dealer will have well trained people to handle the tire issues! The only reason for me to go to Dunlop tires I’d because of the trash, gravel pickup issues with the Michelin’s.

All great info for me to soak in...with a glass of wine Pikul.:wink

Give me the number for the State of Texas street maintenance division & I'll see if they can start street cleaning for you Tomy!
