hello guys,

as i'm looking in Europ for a GT there are big price differences among... colors ! And ofcourse my choice is on top :ack

Now my question/idea :

can i buy the "cheapest" one and have it repainted in my favourite color ?
Does this any harm on the value , prof. done ofcourse ?
What color would you choose , NOT a stock color ....?

and, sorry, in Europe NO stripes.......to many "silly" cars have duplicated this.....

I would never re-paint a car for that reason.

I would have no problem in repainting my Ford GT.

Then again my Ford GT will never be for sale, so may as well have it the way I like it.

In Europe the attitude towards repainting FGTs is a bit more lax....

I know of 15-16 cars that have been repainted.... Remember Europe officially got 101 total cars...

2 have been repainted into Gulf/Heritage colours
3 have been repainted into Orange (Mirage)
2 have been repainted into metallic green (Geiger)
1 has been repainted into black (Roush RE600)

etc...

But if you do it, you need to do it right, and it is expensive. I have been quoted £10,000=€12,000=$16,500

seems to me very expensive for a paint job... but ok, could be. There would not be any damages to repair , only a perfect stock paint to be repainted :biggrin

Can somebody post pics from GT's in a non-stock color ?
My choice ( for the moment :lol) would be shiny ( metallic ) grey as my Vette...

In general, a re-paint will devalue a vintage or collectible car. I believe that the market dynamic in Europe are different that here in the U.S.A. due to the scarcity of the car. I am sure it would cause the value to fall slightly in Europe, but not to the extent it would here where there is a much higher supply of GT's available.

How about doing a wrap in the color you want, that way you don't hurt the value and you get what you want. If you change your mind you can either remove the wrap, or change it............."win win"

You could not tell the difference.... even up close.... again, it was expensive at £2,100, but I had the original colour protected underneath....

I would never paint a perfectly good car.............in case of a sale, the question would be " was this car in an accident to deserve a repaint?" I dont care where you live, a repaint is a diminishing value item...........just ask any car dealer...........

and wrapping is much cheaper .

Wrapping would be the ONLY way to do a "repaint". That way you could have your cake and eat it too as they say.

Not only would it be the cheaper way to go paint-wise, but it'd give the stock paint some protection from rock chips as well.

What would the cost be for a wrap in the US or Canada

When they do the wrap do they actually do all of the areas , inside the door returns , under clamshell lips , under trunck lid ,etc

Does the wrap trap any moisture or collect condensation between the original paint and the wrap and cause long term damage to the original paint

Who is the best at applying the wrap

Does it come off easily after left for years , or is it to soon to tell

I just found a pretty special car in a colour I always wanted and we are closing on it... I think I will keep it that way for a while, then maybe wrap into something more extravagant...

The wrapper will do as much or as little as you want them to (and the price will vary according to this). I asked them to do inside the door, the hinges, clamshell lips and all other painted areas...

They did not take the doors off mine and the rear light cluster either (so upon close inspection you could still see the silver behind).

I can't answer your other questions I am afraid, but the wrapper assured me the vinyl was guaranteed for at least 5yrs and it would come off easily when heat treated...

The vinyl used to wrap vehicles is similar to a big decal but it is a advanced decal product. It has comply caracteristics that allow it to stretch and adhere to the paint surface without air bubbles by using air channels to release trapped air. As long as it is applied correctly it will not trap moisture or cause any damage. The only damage that may happen is if the installer gets sloppy with his knife! Choose your installer carefully. A good quality material with be a 5-7 year product. I have worked with most products and personally liked the 3M Comply product the best. The 3M comply removes fairly easy without leaving adhesive if peeled in the sun or when it is hot. Vinyl wrapping has limitations and its difficult to duplicate the quality of finish that paint gives but is a great alternative. And it will protect the paint at the same time!

Paint is a consumable item, like tires. Only difference is the MTBR.

I'll most definitely do a wrap one day, decided after seeing the Joyride car.

I do this every day and am thinking of wrapping mine in a 3M Dinoc carbon fiber for R6 to make it stand out. If done properly there is no cutting on the paint.
2-3k for a full wrap with the lower number being the exterior visual surfaces only and the higher number including the returns/ hidden areas.
Very easy to remove with a little heat and protects the paint while installed.
