Speedhut Caution

My car had replacement Speedhut gauges. I have the original also. Well, the speedometer is a GPS Speedometer. Not sure why previous owner replaced with a different gauge than what is standard with the Speedhut Ford GT replacement gauges, but anyway, thats what I have.

So, the digital and analog speeds were way off. Digital was normal but analog was way off. I discussed with Speedhut and they were very sorry and tried to make it right but nothing worked. Prior owner said it always read incorrect on analog but he just watched the digital.

So, they said they would send me a new gauge and I send my old one back. Since I didn't want to take my dash apart but once, I waited till the gauge got here to take apart based on Kendall's prior post. So, when I took my dash apart, I noticed the Speedometer gauge I was removing wasn't the same as the one they had just sent me. All the wires on the one they sent were "plug and Play" while one of my wires went inside my Speedo. So I took pictures and sent to them. They said......ohhh..you have one of the old Speedometers and the dash you have won't fit the new gauge so you need a new dash to fit the gauge. So they sent me a dash free of charge but a simple Speedometer change turned into a several hour ordeal to take out every gauge and installing in the new dash.

Moral of story...if you have old Speedhut Speedometer you will have to replace whole dash if you upgrade. Also, do don''t do some special gauge that is really not made for the Ford GT because when/if you ever need to replace, it might not fit.

Speedhut was very supportive but still it was a major headache to have to replace everthing.

Good information and sounds like Speedhut went way above what would be normal customer service. It was an inconvenience but most companies would never give that kind of support for a different owner than the original purchaser.

I agree!

What was difference between digital and analog speeds at 65 mph?

+1 for great customer service! A rare treat in todays world.
Think how pissed off you would have been if you had to pay!
A little extra time in the garage with a Ford GT is never a bad thing

Oh it was WAYYYY off. 65 was like 120. I spoke to them several times and they came to the conclusion that the gauge was at fault. I first thought they had it running km/hr but that conversion was wrong too! They said it would have to be replaced, thus the change.

Yes the customer service was outstanding! I guess if I ever need to change a gauge or get behind the dash I at least have some knowledge.

Without this forum I would have never even attempted this and without Kendall's detailed "how to". Are there many super cars that an average joe can work on like this??

I had the old issue with faulty lighting. They were very quick to send out replacement parts, with no discussion or hassle. I think the title of this post, is misleading although its a free country.

No the title is meant for reading. Didn't say anything bad about Speedhut, just be of caution if your Speedo is a few years old because they redid their gauge and dash cutout. If you change anything just make sure you have the correct dash that was supplied by Speedhut because you might need to change more than you think. I don't want someone to be surprised like I was when even Speedhut thought it would be a simple change.
