Or just borrow somebody else's 2-way device and let him deal with the fallout...

Maniacal Pockets

A tracking iPhone doesn't bother EP, it shows that the phone never leaves his property. Which begs the question of why he needs a cell phone? I guess for the rare occasions when flies to Vegas.

I don't see what the big deal is. Did anyone not know that the phone has location services? You can turn it off in the settings. Smartphones are crawling with applications based on location and usage patterns. If you are utterly paranoid about your cellphone keeping a record of where you were, you better not ever make a call, send an email, respond to a text. That would make it fairly tough to use. Remember, your phone can be used as a listening device even when it's OFF. Using modern convenience without a digital signature is time consuming and nearly futile unless you have a professional dedication to it. Just like using a debit card, credit card, going anywhere that has CCTV (which is virtually everywhere), surfing the internet, paying an e-bill, doing a google search. How many of you are surfing this site with an anonymizer? Nobody browsing right now is.

If you're that afraid your wife is gonna find out you've been at the titty bar, turn it off!

Funny you should ask.....

A sneaking suspicion that privacy’s being invaded

I like it. If apple could just start planing my day now and perhaps it could attend to office demands so that I could get some track time. Looking forward to apple's track analytics. Cheers.

Big Billy has been tracking our porn usage for years.

...unless they read this thread & "strap it to a semi" as suggested. Then Fubar will be out one iPhone AND his bail money.

You know, back in the good ol days, I could triangulate a cell phone and find anybody I was looking for. But sense these throwaway phones came out criminals are much harder to pin down. Luckily, they still have mad ex-girlfriends... hell hath no furry gentlemen. Maybe I should ask Mr. Jobs for advice on tracking people.

I am amused by the multiple ironies of the last line of that article: "Only governmental regulatory bodies can inject sanity back into this state of affairs."

I don't understand what all of fuss is about. If you read the fine print, these device tell you they will spy on you. If you choose to buy and use these devices then expect that. If you don't like it, don't use it.

I don't.

I don't see the harm to track where the phone is. I don't think that info can be made public and if it would ... big deal.
We are ( I am) putting tracking and tracings in my vehicles in case they got stolen so that I can locate them immediately. I can see merrits in that. Imagine the wife is following you and sees that you're on the way back home. She can start preparing dinner and already put your slippers ready by the time you get home. We life in a Just In Time world anyhow

I have no problem with electronic devices "tracking" wifey or me when it's being done with my knowledge and implied or signed consent. I only have 'issues' when it's not. It's a matter of principle for me rather than privacy. OIW, it's really nobody's business where wifey or I may be at any particular time.

OTOH, our "daily drivers" have had OnStar-type tracking devices on them for years - especially wifey's. If she's in a wreck, or carjacked, or whatever - I want LEOs/EMTs dispatched to her location PRONTO...or, if the car's just simply stolen, I want the dirtbag thief nailed to the wall in the act.

Aside from the above, "big brother" can just mind his own 'bidness'.
