I understand your trepidation, but the guy in the minivan made it between you, so maybe he’s a pretty good driver and knows where his car is in space. I say this because these days I drive my F150 most places, and I have to cut it close in many parking lots, otherwise I couldn’t park there. And sometimes I get dirty looks, but I haven’t scraped anybody. A lot of modern cars also have cameras that show their clearance too, which helps gauging clearances.
