Why can't we have a Cash for Clunkers program like the Finns do?

I rather be an "EP" driver than a Rally driver, I live longer that way!

I didn't see any Fords there.

Frank -there was at least one Escort and one Capri.

As I always say - the car is faster than the driver. Until it hits something and the driver is ejected.

Not sure as I would find this to be fun, they certainly play really hard. Pretty expensive as the cars seem to be disposable.

I think the spectators are almost in as much danger as the drivers, maybe more so, since they don't have any protection. :ack

I made the same point on a related thread sometime back.

'CANNOT understand why people risk their necks by standing along side the road soooooooo darn close to these cars. ESPECIALLY those who stand on the "outside" shoulder of a turn - right where inertia is gunna THROW any car that launches off the road! 'Makes no sense at all to me...

But, believe it or not, I really would like to DRIVE in wunna those rallies! HOWEVER, my car'd hafta have the most BO-DAAAAY-SHUS roll cage and harness systems ever built by man! AND I'd pick a rally routed over roads that are at LEAST wide enough for two mopeds to get by each other! :lol

It's funny how " Oh sh*t "Translates !
The spectators seem to be very appreciative of a good crash. They applaud and whistle on Style Points I guess ?? :biggrin
Most of those will buff right out.. :lol
Note to self .. No rallying in the GT !! ....:eek

Good point. Do not take GT to Rally(Just Rally V)!

It looks like everyone is having so much fun though!

Some of the corners looked like wrecking yards and then add to this you could always hear them clapping etc after the wreck; interesting

I love rally racing! In my opinion it is the ultimate test of what a car can handle. I've never participated in a dirt rally before but I have seen quite a few major wrecks during the Targa rallies that we compete in.

I'll never forget one team we met prior to the beginning of one of the stages. It was a beautifully prepared Holden Monaro touring car that the owner/driver normally uses in the New Zealand touring car championship. It had an incredible roll cage and both the driver and co-driver were wearing HANS devices. We were checking out his car and he said "This roll cage is so strong you could never get hurt in it. It is the strongest roll cage we've ever made!" The very next stage he threw it off the road and down a cliff breaking his co-drivers back requiring him to be airlifted out and sent to the hospital.

It was a quick reminder that you can never be too prepared or too confident when driving a rally car.

Rally rule #1) Always look to where you want the car to go and for god's sake never look at the tree, building, power pole, or ditch on the outside of the road!!!

Ahhhh.....OK

Gentlemen,

Race courses lined with large trees, ditches, and buildings. Spectators standing at track edge without barricades. All to be negotiated at breakneck speeds in compact cars singularly unsuited to the task. Thanks.......but I'll pass on this.

This is the equivalent of a Red Bull Air Race flown between the skyscrapers in downtown Manhattan in ratty old Cessna 152s.
