We got 21" today. I did the driveway 3 times. Worst blizzard I have ever seen.

Now the wind is picking up and we won't see a temperature above 0 for the next 3 days!

Why do I live in Minnesota? :frown

Ship your car down to me in Florida and I'll drive it around for you and keep it loose.

Nasty today. We only got probably 6-7 inches over the last 36 hours but it's turned into a deep freeze. 11 degrees outside and it's an ice festival everywhere.

It's been snowing here for hours but it barely seems to be sticking.

Damn, even snow won't stick around in Detroit.

Do you at LEAST have a generator? I don't care if you live in the center of TOWN...if the power goes out for any length of time, you could be in deep doo-doo. (My buddy in Montana DOESN'T have one - and I rag on him continually for it!)

We live on a hill over looking our town (within the actual city limits) and power here went out for 14 HOURS during a N. Easter one year when temps were 5*F and/or less...wind chill about 20+ below. Up 'til THEN I'd always 'figgered' that power would NEVER be out for more than an hour or two IN THE CITY, so a generator was just a waste of money. Weeeeeeeeell...the power CAN go out for longer than a couple of hours!!!

Anyway, the first thing I did after that was buy a generator and 'hookup' for same. Since then, I've needed to use it twice. But, THIS HOUSE will never be w/o "juice" again for any longer than it takes to hook that puppy up and fire it off!

We were without power for 3 days earlier this year - I did the same thing, bought a generator and had it wired into the house. Haven't had a power cut since. Typical.

I'm with EP. I have a backup generator and another generator as a backup for the backup. :lol

I have a 48KW about the size/weight of an Egyptian Pyramid Stone. It took 16 Guys to carry it with straps and nothing but enduring arms and shoulders. It will pay for itself when the big earthquake hits SoCal.

Sam, I hope it is not a natural gas generator. IMO natural gas generators are not the best choice, gas lines do break or get turned off during earthquakes.

I can use either CH4 or C3H8. I wanted Diesel but I couldn't get a permit without an environmental study. BTW, the last time the Gas Co. in our region shut down their pipeline feed was back in the late 70's and it was due to maintenance and due to earthquakes.

Do you have enough C3H8 tanks onsite? Do you have to adjust anything when switching fuels?

I was going to go the diesel route, but found the permitting problems to problematic. So I went with the biggest gasoline generator I could find, it is only 18KV but does the job and can run my entire property as long I don't use the a/c units, steam shower, electric ovens, or pool pumps. Not the big of a deal for my 1 to 2 times a year that it is used. As for my fuel storage, I figure my cars on average are 1/2 full and that will supply me for quite a while.

Minor adjustment to make it run on either. I found a local company that can rent and deliver very large propane. The engine itself is a V6 gasoline engine modified to run on gas. I did my homework and I can convert the system very easily. BTW, they wanted an additional $1,200 for the CARB version for this state. I had the non-California model delivered to AZ and trucked here. The inspector did not care if it was CARB approved, nor did I.
