Signed engine badges

I am not sure if this has been discussed in the past or not but I am curious if the engine builders signature badges were stamped by a machine or did they actually sign each and every one of the engine badges? If they did manually sign the badges what was used? Who thinks Ford will continue this type of personalization on the new Ford GT?

Our engines were built on the niche line, each engine one at a time by a two person team (same for the GT500 engines). I was told that most of the Ford GT engines were built by the same two people. Mine is signed by Bill Shaffer and Doug Campbell.

The new GT's engine is rather standard 3.7L Ecoboost. It will be interesting to see if it gets "special attention".

there were 3 pair of engine builders. the signatures were digitized and then made into stamps that were done by machine. a forum member's company is who made them for Ford. I think that's what you were asking. they also made all the signature plates for the entire Romeo niche line including the Cobra and Shelby engines.

The signatures were applied with a metal punch. I think they were done manually by each builder.

I think you are going to find the new GTs engine to be about as 'standard fare' as our 5.4l was. Jeremy will have opportunity to tell the world its a F-150 pickup engine and be completely wrong all over again.

sorry but that's not correct. Tom (tpraceman) actually made the machine for Ford that punched the signatures on the plates. they did not do them by hand.

I can't read the handwriting on my engine plate. Does anyone know the names of the 6 individuals who built the engines so I can make an educated guess on the names?

Sorry for your luck Ed. Those two were on work release and didn't have permission to build engines. They were in charge of axle bolt installation.

Tick, tick tick... boom.

this past fall, Bill Shaffer was invited to give a seminar on the Ford GT engine build at Romeo and I was asked to bring a display engine for his seminar. Both of us were surprised when the engine I brought just happen to have his signature on it! too funny!

I think that engine was built when the guys from Gas Monkey were visiting. Actually before their show started. Kidding

There was a website that had pictures of the engine builders on the Romeo Niche line but no longer active. Back then they had shirts that had Built from the Romeo Niche line. Not sure if these are still available because of the requests for engine builders signatures.

I may have two more engine builders to add to the list if interested.

I think the same Gas Monkeys built my engine and their penmanship sucks. I also can't read mine. Yes, I'm interested in any names of the engine builders you have.

Here's mine, same as Billy J's Hubbard and McIntyre, above. If you look closely at the details of mine and Billy J's you can see they are identical. Must be a stamp or machine repro. Either way, they built me a hell of an engine. Thanks, guys.

Howard
