Hs anyone taken off their side stripes on their own? I am really considering doing this and leaving just the FORDGT. I was thinking of just taking a blowdryer and doing it one day. Maybe I should wait for a real warm day so the body is alos already warmer? Any Suggestions? I just hate to get over anxious and take off paint...

Are they all vinyl? If the two main stripes are painted, are the side stripes painted too?

.

No No No. Dont get Disappointed!!! The Top Stripe is Paint or at least it should be as it was an expensive option. The side stripes are vinyl yes.

+1 Vinyl.

I'm considering the same thing.

Please keep us posted.

Thanks. I might wait and do it at Cooltech next week. But I honestly think if the stripes were at the lower pannel intead of the door would have looked better and made the car look lower. I love them but when I see one with Just the FordGT on it has a certain elegance. I think I will be pulling the vinyl soon

Too easy ... under 5 minutes for both sides. :thumbsup

After being on for 5+ years, is there much paint polishing required?

I had no problems at all with my removal (06) but KDO GT didn't fair so well (05) as it took a TON more elbow grease to remove his.:ack I have followed most all of the comments over the last couple of years and KDO Gt is the only one I ever heard anything negative from.:cheers

Did he use heat and WD-40 to get any glue off?

Mine is a blue 06'. Looking forward to doing this the minute it shows up. Yours is beautiful. :thumbsup

Mine came off easy. 3M has a gread adhesive remover if needed. I did not need it. I did used a heat lamp to warm prior. More consistant than the heat gun approach.

Yes Kevin lives just around the corner from me and used the exact same procedure that I did but I have never seen anything like it as it was a real pain in the A$$.:ack Thanks for the compliment as I am sure yours will soon get a few beauty mods as well once she arrives:cheers

I've taken the vinyl off of 6 cars. its not hard. I found out that if you use a HAIR DRYER on medium setting, a plastic bondo blade, and a small amount of 3m adhesive remover. its about a 30 minute job from start to finish.

just pull at a low angle and slowly. I have taken both stripes off in one piece on several occasions. On darker cars there is a bit of fade that will take a small amount of buffing to correct. midnight blue being the worst I have found out. Work slow and from the corners. Remove ALL jewelry to make sure you don't scratch the car.

afterward I put on three coats of carnuba. looks incredible afterward.

happy peeling. :wink

In AZ, just waiting for August. :wink

I've fancied going the other way; remove the lettering in favor of solid side stripes.

Is there any sign of paint discoloration where the tape was? My car is kept in the garage and covered. It never sat in the sun for any length of time.

Even though I got a heritage, I thought the same thing. My solid vinyl LOWER stripe shot is seen here with the stock "FORD GT" lettering in stock heritage form (no stripe). Contrast is easy with the 'stock car' pictured. (altho it's pretty cool how he's got "GT40" instead of "FORD GT"

I really like the GT40. Did he have it made or is it available somewhere?

The last picture looks like it was taken at one of the mountain passes here in Washington.

I'll ask him. I don't really know.

As for the shot, you're close, it was just north of you in BC, just outside of needles on the other side of the ferry before we bombed down toward Vernon and then Kelowna. I think we used over a half tank each to go DOWNHILL 75 miles!!! What a rush!!! :thumbsup

That would be great! Thanks
