During my Barrett-Jackson GT Forum AZ Rally I spent a lot of time looking over the GT500 as I wanted to buy one when prices came back down to earth. On display were several Shelby GT Mustangs that are pretty much like the Hertz Shelby GT-H rentals but with a 5 speed available. They only come in Black or White with silver stripes and black interiors. No supercharger, 325HP, no rear spoiler. It reminded me of the '66 GT350 which is my favorite original Shelby Mustang. I've been thinking about that S-GT for the last week. So I ordered one today in white. They just started producing them 3 weeks ago at Shelby's garage in Las Vegas. I need another car like I need a dose of the swine flu but hey, I missed out on the Supersnake when my credit line maxed out 4.5 million short of the winning bid.:ack Compared to that, this $36K Shelby is FREE and looks like it will be fun to drive to work. What do you think??

'Grille reminds me of Chip Foose's Mustang redo.

I like it ...and I'm (gasp!) not really a Ford man!:slap

shelby GT

Has anyone been following the GT-H, Hertz Rental Shelby? They are now appearing all over for sale, and would love to purchase one to complement my 66 H...but I cant see spending 60K plus..for a mustang, which does not compare to a Shelby with the 5.4 liter engine....and 500 plus Hp....although the number factor of only 500 produced is appealing......what do you guys think? and Chip...I do like that Shelby.....for the money I dont think you can go wrong.

Gino

You're gonna have fun with that one Chip. Congratulations. :thumbsup

Nice!

I talked to our resident Automotive Journalist and he thought the S-GT was equally as fun (if not more so) than the GT500...

Price is right!

Right on Chip. I love the color you chose and the price is right. Since BJ I have been watching the Ford Auctions around the country and the Shelby Hertz rentals are coming out of service and selling Wholesale for $55-$60 to Ford Dealers and I can't see that at all. There's no way. I would love to purchase some for resale BUT NOT AT THAT PRICE. Tomy Hamon

What do you think??

I think I am tired of trying to keep up with the Beck's. :biggrin

Geez, no more room in the garage. Now what? :cheers

However, if you want to store that aluminum thing over at my house, I'll make room. Just thinking of you ...........

Chip, What is different between the S-GT and a regular GT besides the bling factor?

What's different...

Chip, What is different between the S-GT and a regular GT besides the bling factor?
mardyn

90mm cold air intake
Free flow mufflers
X pipe crossover exhaust
Performance oil filter
Ford Racing recalibrated ECM
Hurst super short throw shifter (with a cool white cue ball handle)
3.55 posi rear axle
Bigger roll bars front & rear
Shorter performance springs (car sits 1.5 inches lower than a stock GT)
Front strut tower brace
Ford Racing shocks front & rear
P235/55 ZR18 tires on polished bullet wheels
Painted silver LeMans stripes
427 Cobra hood scoop (not functional)
Lower front fascia
Brushed aluminum grill
Shelby GT door door sill plates

AND...A Shelby CSM numbered ID tag under the hood and on the dash.

I have not driven one but people who have tell me it handles better than the GT500 but does not accelerate as hard (of course). All this stuff could be duplicated for a bit less money on a regular Ford Mustang GT but this one says "Shelby" across the deck lid and goes into the Shelby Registry.:banana Production in 2007 according to the Ford Racing Rep I spoke to will be 6000 units for 4000 Ford dealers so they won't be all over the place. Seems like a deal to me for 36K as the Hertz rentals are selling at the dealer auctions for 60K!!!

Chip -

I agree. Seems like a solid deal for the price in today's market.

Unique and nice looking.

Enjoy! I love the white and silver combination for the Mustang.

I think that the GT-H will hold its value. It's very cool that they are real cars that are being driven, hard. The are doing what they were built to do, and thats why i like the idea. I'm afraid of too many GT500s just sitting in a heated garage. While there is nothing wrong with taking care of you car (or heated garages for that matter) but they were built to be driven and enjoyed.

That is why I love the idea of the GT-H and S-GT.

Only had it for 2 weeks (ordered it 8 months ago)! Put 300 miles on it already.

So Chip, when will the supercharger or turbo go on :biggrin
While I'm going for the GT 500, I think the Shelby GT is also a superb car, and as you say, probably a better overall driver less the brute acceleration.
Awesome looks too.:cheers

Ford Racing shorty headers are the only mod I'm planning. I'm going to drive it and leave it pretty stock. I've got a fire breathing Cobra and the GT for brute acceleration. I love the GT500 and plan on buying one close to the end of production and I initially dismissed the Shelby GT. The more I looked and thought about it however, the more I liked it. The GT500 is built like the 68-70 Shelbys, all done on the assembly line. The Shelby GT is produced like the 65-67 cars that were shipped to Shelby for the conversion. Fulfilling my fantasy of traveling back in time to 1966 and buying a brand new GT350 is probably my primary motivation. After it arrives maybe we can hookup and trade cars for a short drive.:cheers :cheers

What factors make it the better overall driver?

Less weight?

I am starting to get obsessed with the Shelby GT.

How much are these going for, relative to the GT500?

Looking for a guess of current market conditions, not MSRP.
