Stop Tech Update
Hey guys Jeff sent me this PM ( see below ). It starts after my comments
Jeff for the record one of our Moderators offered his car the Steve R. So A test car will be available. He goes by "Bony" here his street name is Daniel B.
We lobbied Steve because he said he wanted to see what interest is out there. We hope we didn't slow him down.. :biggrin
I know a limited few guys may step up to a whole new system but going to a 6 pot caliper may require a wheel change and that will turn some people away. I'm not sure what size your front calipers are but the Brembo 6 pots will not fit the GT 18" wheel.
For the record Ford racing has a light weight rotor package for the front and rear. The Stock GT calipers are fairly stout and are plumbed with SS brake lines. If you reverse engineered the hats and made a CC rotor and provided pads for the Brembo stock calipers you're going to have more customers here in my estimation.
Off the top of my head we have 14" front rotors and 13 1/4" rear rotors. I'm going to guess that most of the guys here are street performance driving owners who are looking for a lighter durable rotor not so much a full hard core track system. Because the GT is no longer available most guys are not tracking these car on a real regular or hard core basis which maybe different from the ZO6 crowd. I'm a big fan of the ZO6 and I understand if you going to track that car at all you should scrap the stock system ( cracked rotors etc )
Just to reiterate , Bony and I both conveyed to Steve R and John that we felt the rotor & pad kit was the way to go for the masses and some maybe interested in the whole caliper /rotor kit. The GT stock brake system is very good. The real excitement came from the benefit of a large rotational mass reduction which would benefit acceleration ,braking and all other reduced un sprung weight benefits. Because you were not informed that we already had a test vehicle lined up they may have not conveyed the first desirable option to you ??
Based on your preliminary pricing for the complete kit of calipers, rotors, pads and SS brake lines it sounds like a kit with rotors and pads in the $8,000. to $10,000 rage is more than doable?? I for one would be in for a rotor / pad kit but probably not a whole caliper, brake line, rotor swap kit.
We look forward to your progress and comments on this project. I'd like to hear what the members here would prefer rotors and pads kit or complete caliper rotor kits???? ( End of Stormcat comments )
Hi,
My name is Jeff Ritter, and I'm the Sales Mgr. for StopTech. I will provide more info on this product as it develops. I've read all of the responses here, and it is clear that there is a significant amount of interest.
My primary request at this point however, is please DO NOT email Steve Ruiz. He has a massive workload on his plate, and cannot afford to answer commercial sales questions. StopTech is growing at an unprecedented rate, and Steve must not be distracted from his engineering duties if you want to see this product on your vehicle any time soon.
Please send all questions to me:
jeff@stoptech.com. That said, at this time I don't really have much further for you than what is already in this post. Preliminary pricing is $14,999 for a complete brake system including six piston front, four piston rear calipers, continuous carbon ceramic rotors, street pads, SS lines, and all necessary mounting hardware.
Unfortunately, I believe developing a stock-sized rotor setup for the Ford GT would require a completely new rear rotor design. For that reason, the more likely solution will be for us to create a complete four wheel system optimized for the GT, using our standard rotor dimensions (either a 380mm or 355mm front rotor), with a 355mm rear. Again, that system should retail for roughly $15k.
Does anybody have a GT in Los Angeles, willing to let us take some measurements to design a system/ and or test-fit parts? Of course, you would receive a substantial discount on the final product. If so, please email me at
jeff@stoptech.com
For reference, I'm a long time track day enthusiast with a C5 Z06...currently running the continuous carbon ceramic rotors.
