Satin Cerulean Blue McLaren P1

Have any of you seen this color in person? The process seems complex and I am sure the pictures do not translate well. Supposedly it's a special MSO matte color but it has metal/silver flakes which make the color pop under bright sunlight. I'm interested in possible custom color if the color/process is not proprietary or cost prohibitive. I know custom colors are a spendy item for the new GT's, but this one could be off the chart. Thanks for any thoughts,

From a McLaren site...seems like it maybe painful (cleaners, waxes etc...) unless it has a film over it.

"Taking care of satin paint is easy. The satin finish is the result of a clear coat that diffracts the light as opposed to reflecting it. The diffraction comes from tiny ridges in the clear coat. So you just can't wax it since the wax fills the ridges. However there are protective coatings designed for satin. Dr Beasleys makes a wash and protective coating for satin.

There are clear vinyls that work with satin. There is some clear bra that comes with the car from the factory but it is fairly limited in coverage. I am having major sections covered and it works fine with satin.

I have an F12 in satin silver for over a year now. Easy to take care of and in fact hides the micro scratches one normally sees on gloss."

I've seen the normal Cerulean Blue and it was amazing, thought about doing it on my GT....

Let me save everyone a lot of pain when it comes to McLaren paint. Unless you have a very good "in" you wont get paint information. McLaren holds their information very close. Including samples.

I had a decent in didn't get anywhere.

correct, you're car would have to be in a McLaren certified paint shop with a need for paint work....

Thanks for the info. I assumed it would not be information McLaren would easily want to part with, especially to the competition. My hope was that the process was not proprietary and that it could be very nearly approximated. Might be a moot point if Ford is unwilling to at least attempt a spray out on the color blanks; guess I'll find out when I get to the ordering stage this year. I love this site, so many knowledgable individuals with great wisdom and experience. Thanks again!

Lambo has a Blu Inaco that might be real close to what you are wanting. Its a matte blue with a little metallic.
