Rocker Panel & Fender Protectors

I found an interesting web site with some fender and rocker panel protection splash guards for the GT. Similar to the Stillen items, they are made of clear polycarbonate and attach using the existing screw holes behind each of the wheels.

The link to the website is:

http://www.highroaddesignsinc.com/Rockr_Guard_intro.html

I just ordered a set, and will let everyone know how they turn out....

Having to drill holes is the reason I didn't buy Stillen's shields.

One thing I've noticed about this forum is the members reluctance to state negative opinions about things like new products for fear of offending somebody or incurring the wrath of The Great Bony. Generally I follow that line myself.

Not this time buddy!

THAT'S SOME CHEESY LOOKING CRAP RIGHT THERE!!

WOULD GO GOOD WITH CURB FEELERS!!

Sorry, Bony I promise to be nice in the future.

Ahhhhhhhhh! But even CHEESIER lookin' is rock chips and drillin' unnecessary holes in the car. I'd perfer BLACK 'steada clear ('cause they're gunna get 'peppered' lookin' B4 2 long)...but a rattle can would fix that "wiki-wiki" (ask Robert what "wiki-wiki" means!).

What drillin? For the rear I used Silicon and let it sit overnight! Front - used the push tabs that are there as original that hold the skirt in and Silicon.....:thumbsup

NO DRILLIN! Removable.....

I wouldn't trust silly-cone to hold NUTHIN' in place that strong airflow hits directly. But, dat's just me. :willy

Can you say "GET IN THE ZONE........ AUTO ZONE"
Not for me! Its funny, but people will take away from the look of their car to protect it. Who the hell are you saving it for?? paint protection / Clear Bra works great and if its done right you cant even tell its on the car. Just my THREE cents. :lol

Yes I am E.P. I figure the way the snow is still falling it will be sometime in July before I can take a spin... so I have time to decide what kind of protection I will install. I plan on keepin her as nice as I got her. Been watchin' some clear film instructional videos and looks doable to me. Any body install any kits at home?

Would not suggest it. Get a PRO to do it.

What Shelby said, Rich!

(And no, I don't. I 'figgered' no matter WHICH parts of the car were "filmed" - rocks would always find the part that WASN'T anyway. Besides, protective film creates other issues in my view...) ('Windshield exempted, of coarse!)

My biased opinion on putting on fender guards: I wanted something that works as good as a mud flap but without the detracting looks of them. These guards may not be for southern state cars, but if you live in areas like Denver you might want something better than a clear tape. Here, there’ll be grit & gravel on the roads through April. It’s a compromise; these guards are more visible but give improved protection over tape, and they can be put on just for a road trip, track day, etc. so you can limit their exposure time to your preference. I keep mine on all the time, and I’ll have speed tests on them this summer.

Hello Jim,
I assume your the manufacturer of this product? Be interested to see how they wear after being hit by stones. Good luck. FYI, our FORUM SPONSOR, STILLEN is producing similar guards and we are getting get reports on them.
Cheers,
daniel

I'm going to side with Texas on this one...

They remind me of the goggles some Basketball players wear. :lol They'd be fine for track day only.

Oh, and Permatex Ultra Black is still going strong on our Stillen guards:thumbsup

If your car is black or midnight blue and you paint these 'guards black - they'd look like they came on the car. 'Blend right in with the side splitters and other black trim.

And, like jbyrnes said, they could be put on & taken off as one wished depending on what one might prefer at the time. It's not like they were permanently WELDED on.

I hadn't given much thought to making these guards anthing but clear, that is until I saw the carbon fiber ones on the the ZR-1 Corvette prototype. They look purposeful, intentional, and useful. I may try that soon for my GT to gage the looks. Also, depending on interest, I could change the color of the black rubber area to match the car color for a reduced visual impact. Comments?

The were designed for aerodymics and to keep crap off the sides which has been a problem with C5s and C6s which are tracked. Door sills can look like they were sand blasted and brake cooling inlets really get sand blasted.

When I hit 2xxmph+ I won't care about "silly-cone" and do nothing but live the moment. If they fall off - touche!

Till then it works :thumbsup

Maybe it's just me but putting mudflaps on a GT has the same cosmetic appeal as putting a diffuser on a dually. :shrug
