Sadly, I got a phone call today from Fred's wife, Sherry. Fred (Spirit) passed away at home on hospice after a lengthy battle with cancer. A while back Fred broke his hip. One of his cows knocked him down, and being a tough guy, he continued working and walking on it! Ultimately he had his hip replaced, but in the process, lung cancer was diagnosed. He underwent chemo, radiation, and finally an experimental clinical trial. Through it all he kept his kind, gentle, easy going demeanor. He kept his problem private and didn't complain one bit.
Fred's wishes were to be cremated and that a big party be thrown in his memory. The plans are to give him his last ride in his new FGT next spring with a gathering here in the Texas Hill Country.
