I read they're working on a system for our Ricardo Transaxel. OK who's going to be the first to try this out???
E.P you could just sit in your garage and play with the paddles and make engine noises ...:rofl

Yeah, but it's a bit rubbish really as all it does is move the gear level for you. Now if it sorted the clutch, engine revs etc so you could do flat to the floor changes it'd be interesting....

I hear ya.. It may be useful on a busy or tight track.. Some of the auto shift systems are tough on clutches ( early Lambo Gallardo ) so it may not be so bad to do it yourself ??

'Never happen! All I 'gotta' do is just post a comment to any of YOUR posts - and ...

Anyway, Bony will ALWAYS be "the king of post counts" (if for no other reason than the fact he has ..."the key":eek). So, I'd look for HIM to adopt the same ploy in defense of his crown! :lol

I agree... if was more like the F1 or E-Gear that is out now, where it matches the rpm and takes care of the clutch I would definitely be interested...

Still having to work the clutch but shift with a paddle seems like it would be hard to get used to over a standard gear shift...

We are sending one of our engineers out to Ricardo in a couple of weeks to be trained on R&R of the transmission for the 3.9 gear changes. I will have him look into this while he's there.

And what about the 1-2 paddle shift when the tranny's COLD?:willy

Right now, most of us (I believe) "granny shift" the 1-2 until things warm up due to the "grind" many experience with a "cold" 1-2 quick shift. Any "auto" shift would be (characteristically) a BANG shift, wouldn't it? :shrug

I wouldn't particularly want to get into a debate on paddle shifts because opinions vary so much. But I would say that most drivers I know seem to prefer the manual shift as the 'pure' sports DNA.

Paddles on cars I've had are sort of OK - but not as satisfying somehow. Combined with the fact the Ford has (in my humble opinion) one of the best boxes in the business.....?

I wouldn't want to inflame any passions on this issue particularly - but felt I had add a heart felt view.

I'm with you on the paddle thing, Neil, but that having been said, I've spoken to 3 different people now who ALL thought the same way ... until they got proficient in the operation of their paddle systems.

NOW none of 'em would go back.

I'm going to drive my wife's car in "paddle" mode for a while & see if I feel the same way or not.

Can't see a paddle shift on a FGT. Now, as far as an F car, I can't see specing out one without it. Love them... the only way to go when coupled to a management system.

My 04 Murcie has the egear (1st yr they offered it). With the "full" integration it is nice. You can't achieve a speed shift as you can with a fully automatic as the ECU that controls the throttle & gearbox tries to match the required RPM of the next up or down shift before it engages. So basically the is clutch is fully engaged before power is applied, hence I don't ever experience any slippage.
Also does not permit an improper up or down shift.. can't be doing 80mph & go to 1st gear (blow up motor or lock tires) or be doing 20mph & up shift to 6th.
Overall, its not as fun as a manual, but its nice to have one of each & to have a choice....keeps things mixed up a bit more :thumbsup

Oh boy here we go.. E.P. you have to drive the GT before you can give a qualified response...:bored I for one have a smooth shift form 1st to second but I usually let the car idle for at least five minutes before I drive it

I love the GT shifter . I justed wanted to share something that was going on...:wink
