My neighbors son purchased a 2005 Corvette Convertible a couple weeks ago. He has never worked on a car before and approached me to ask for help.

I am not familiar with the latest Corvette's, though I know quite a few of you gentlemen are. If I may, I would like to request some advice and pointers regarding some basics.

1. Where are the jack lift points? Pics would be great.
2. Recommendation for an after-market exhaust that has a little more rumble and still pass CA smog (not too much rumble as I have to live in the same neighborhood)?
3. Wheel and Tire recommendations? He would like to go a little bigger.
4. Workshop Manual?
5. 50,000 mile service items that should be attended to?
6. Vendors to go to for parts (i.e., oil filters, etc...)?
7. Trouble items that should be attended to?
8. Any additional suggestions.

Thank you in advance

Cooks, eh?

I keed!

Corse exhaust is pretty well rated. Idle is a little lack luster compared to some of the other exhausts, but sounds good through the rev range, and doesn't drone.

I made the following mods to a 2003 c5 that I have since sold but was very Happy with:
Lowered 1.5"
Billy Boat stainless route 66 exhaust and headers
Short throw shifter by Kirban
Erada Speed rotors
Magnuson Supercharger
ACI hood
18" & 19" HRE 840 with Michelin Pilots

If it is not Corvette specific mods, Kendall at Cooltech is the guy close enough to do most anything, he may even know Corvettes inside out, he sure knows about ZR1 engines...
Another very good resource for your questions and a guy that did a bunch of work to my 06 C6 was Andy at A&A Corvettes in Oxnard. Andy and his crew are top notch. (805) 278 4107. :thumbsup

1. Where are the jack lift points? Pics would be great. There are openings in the rocker panels, and a hole in the chasis where the openings are, you'll need hockey pucks with eye bolt in them, must use Hockey pucks to lift otherwise you'll cause damage to the rocker panels. Look at post #17 in this link for the home made version, post 18 for the BMW part info http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-corvette-general-discussion/2522116-jacking-pucks-on-c6.html
Also BMW makes ones that can be permanently used on the C6

2. Recommendation for an after-market exhaust that has a little more rumble and still pass CA smog (not too much rumble as I have to live in the same neighborhood)? Borla
3. Wheel and Tire recommendations? He would like to go a little bigger. Search Corvetteforum.com C6 General discussion
4. Workshop Manual? Mid America Motorworks: www.mamotorworks.com
5. 50,000 mile service items that should be attended to? Too long to explain, check your PM.
6. Vendors to go to for parts (i.e., oil filters, etc...)? See 4. above
7. Trouble items that should be attended to? He may experience the DBS (Dead Battery Syndrom) and make sure he knows how to get into the car should the FOB or the battery fail (manual has the procedure)
8. Any additional suggestions. Enjoy the ride :biggrin

Thank you in advance

You're welcome :cheers

Corsa exhaust systems wil also give you a nice, drone free sound. Keep in mind that mufflers don't effect your emissions system. As long as the cats are in place, along with the O2 sensors and smog pump, you can even run the super loud Borla Stingers.

No smog pumps on a FGT.

No smog pumps on a FGT.

No tire pressure sensors, active handling, heads up display, targa roof, heated seats, nav, dual zone climate control, pivoting visors, drive by wire, magnetic ride control, ceramic brakes, power hatch pulldown, 22 cubic foot trunk, or 30 mpg highway either.

The Vette is a freakin' luxoboat that still manages to retain supercar performance...:biggrin

No doubt about it, current Vette are a great value. Special Ed tells me I am making my FGT into a Vette, because I added nav and a homelink mirror with a compass and temperature display along with traction control.
