I doubt anyway here would take their GT to a Jiffy Lube, but the point is that we (especially those of us who do not do our own tech work) can be taken advantage of...happened to me when I was in college and involved a Buick dealership in Athens, GA.

They've also caught dealerships not changing the spark plugs that are hard to get to on import cars (where the engine is mounted sideways for FWD and the firewall side is hard to get to).

Watching this video and then listening to the BS comments particularly from the district manager is simply repulsive.

The cost of repairs today are such that a more than equitable exchange of value occurs when the process is completed properly however sadly far too many people are simply "thieves"

The automotive industry seems to have maintained a very large percentage of charlatans aka modern day PT Barnum's each knowing that even if they are caught there will another unsuspecting sole draw to the light.

After cases such as these will the practice change at these facilities; yes because now they will simply add to their pre-check list; "look for the camera" and "hook up the machine even if you never turn it on"

I found this video very sad. I suspect this happens alot more than most of us expect.

I have seen or expecteed this type of fraud plus others. I have many vehicles and I just bought a another to add to my collection. The cost quoted to rebuild a simple Chevy 327 was quoted at $7000 with alot of coveats. I am having this done by a trusted mechanic for $1700.

The only solution to this is to be viligient and know a little about cars. The other step is to find a mechanic you can trust and use him exclusivley. I have a lead mechanic of a major dealership do 6 of my 14 vehicles. I suspect he will do 8-9 by the end of this year.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I kind of feel sorry for the Jiffy Lube execs. they probably did not know or sanction this being done. It would be interesting to know if they are franchized retail outlets or owned and operated by the company.

Mam.. Your muffler is making a rattling noise. We believe that the bearing has to be changed. At the same time we recomend the blinker lines fluid flushing. These are special order parts and will take three day's.
