Refuel light: how much gas left?

Hi All

I'd to time my refueling on my way to Mojave this Friday, so that by the time I reach Willow Spring for fill up with the 100 octane fuel I have as little of the pump gas in my tank as possible. I've done a search and it appears that was only ONE mentioned that the refuel lignt comes on when there is ~2.5 gallon reserve left in the tank.

Since I only found one mention of this, I figure I ask in a broader audience for better input. I'd hate to run out of gas on my way to Willow Spring...

thx

Ed

On a related topic, the head of engineering at Shelby American gave all the drivers a talk before open track at the Shelby Bash in Vegas and talked about running on an open track with low fuel at revs. If you are super low on fuel on you are pull G's and the fuel pickup goes dry you can lean out the engine. Unlikely but possible so I just kept it above a 1/4 tank all weekend.

Not sure about the 2.5 gallon reserve but one thing for sure is you dont want to run out. Regardless of weather it's a Fordgt or a Ford F150, running the fuel pumps dry can be harmfull to them.

Ed, on a related topic - what 100 Octane fuel are you planning to use and what fuel was used to tune your car?

Hi Kendall

Thank you for asking. Yes, I'm trying to avoid my mistake, selecting the wrong tune that didn't match the gas in tank, from last year....;( Therefore, perhaps I'll even put a big yellow sticky on the dashboard to remind self: "Hey dummy, MAKE SURE TO SELECT TUNE TO MATCH OCTANE" hahaha

I plan on using whatever 100 octane unleaded they sell at Willow Spring. Is there any specific 100 octane unleaded I use avoid?

Similar to last year, I have a 91 octane tune and a 100 octane tune... however, this time, instead of pulley&tune combo (which I loved), I'm doing the Mojave event with the WHIPPLE, muuhahahahaha

Looking forward to see you and gang in a few days!!
