Recall question

Hi everyone-

I've been a lurker for quite sometime. I've always wanted a GT and finally shifted things around so I could afford one. :cheers

With that said, the vehicle I purchased is an '06 and the previous original owner didn't take the vehicle in for the recall(s) - will Ford still honor the recall if I take it in for the update?

Thanks in advance - I'm eager to have the car delivered!!

Cheers,

Lance

There was a letter Ford sent out to all owners

http://www.fordgtforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8376&highlight=half+shaft+letter

In essence it said, the "Half shaft" bolt upgrade offer was transferrable to new owners as well; and instructed Sellers to forward the letter to new owners. Also, there is a Ford GT Help-Line phone # that might be able to assist.

Maybe you can call the seller and ask if he has the letter or contact your local FORD Dealer (who has an SVT certified Tech) to see if you can be grandfathered in.

There is a list of recommended Delers on the Owners Forum here; as this is not to be done by anyone.

They should be able to just look up your VIN and see if it was done or not...should be covered by Ford. I took my 2005 in last year (it had 400 miles when i bought it) and the dealer just checked the system and it was covered.

Make SURE you have a qualified mechanic do it, ideally someone who has done the work before.

Thanks for the heads up guys! I'm in the Carlisle, PA area and I'll ask around for dealerships.

Lance,

Your worst-case scenario isn't too bad either. You can get an upgrade kit from Accufab (ARP Bolts) for ~$200 that is in our collective experience as good or better than the Ford update. That is, both solutions FIX the potential problem. With some basic tools and mechanical skills, you can do the upgrade yourself (a precision torque wrench is required). Alternatively you could have someon who has worked on GT's do the update. Figure 2 hours total labor. Again, this is your worst-case scenario.... and it is not a bad or expensive alternative.

I believe Customer Satisfaction Program 07B49 (replacement of the axle bolts and washer) issued on December 3, 2007 has now expired.
Thus I believe all those cars which have not been brought into compliance with this free replacement from Ford will now have to pay for the upgrade themselves.

As Kendall correctly points out, either the Accufab or Ford 4G7Z-4B490-A kit will fix the bolt shearing problem and is totally up to the individual car owner now as to which to use.

In any case a new or prospective purchaser should determine from the Ford Oasis database if their FGT VIN has had the Ford upgrade or the previous owner had the Accufab bolts installed.

This is a must for our cars and either upgrade should be done as quickly as possible. For more information talk to our sponsoring GT Guys, Rich or Dennis as they are very familiar with the installation and procedure.

Lance,

only around 90 miles south of you; see you there in the beginning of June; any time you want to do any "minor" work to it yoruself, let me know and I'll drive on up. Just curious, were those all your rides in building G we took a walk through about 2 weeks ago?

Shelby-

I was incredibly interested in your black/stripe delete car - however I really wanted a stock car for the long haul. One of your purchases was from a buddy of mine (he owns Carriage House) and I was trying to make a trade for that car but he was headed to Amelia Island and was to get back to me when he returned. He said one of his sales associates sold the car, so that one didn't work out either. I ended up with a Tungsten with 1200 miles on the clock / 4 option car. It will be delivered next week, I'm eager to enjoy it. I guess I'll have to start looking into the pulley upgrade and bolt updates. :wink

Pete- We just purchased some ex-Bondurant Corvettes to go racing with this year. We just finished putting some fresh cages in a couple of them and we're getting ready for a 12-hour at Summit Point. The great thing is - it'll benefit & help raise awareness for the disease that took my father's life. If interested, feel free checking it out: click here. Some of the cars you saw in that storage area were owned by our auction company and others were owned by a few employees & etc. We have some cars in the basement of that building...

We're really looking forward to the Carlisle All-Ford Nationals, I believe there will be plenty of GT's riding around that weekend - it'll be an incredible site to see!

I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,

Lance
