Rarest GT of them all

IMO a top stripe only option car, perhaps in quicksilver, with the side stripe delete and no other options would have been or is a truly rare one. I was wondering if there were ANY side stripe delete cars with the top stripes?

According to all the brochures I've read, you could not order the top racing stripes without the side stripes. One could always remove the side stripes and have a top racing stripe only, but it wouldn't come from the factory with only the top stripes.

Best Regards,
Waldo

There were not...because it wasn't available. I specifically asked about getting "a top stripe and deleting the side stripe." You know what I was told? "No, that configuration isn't offered. It's either full stripes, no stripes, or side stripes only. No top stripe only." I found that strange, especially since the options were separated and you could get the side stripes axxed for $0.

Then I did the factory tour and saw that the side stripes were the LAST THING put on the car, and they are just stuck on (no painting involved). You mean Ford couldn't have painted the top stripe and just skipped the final stripe step? Of course they could, but I developed a theory immediately after seeing this.

The GT was Ford's halo car, and the side stripe clearly says "FORD GT" so I think the company really wanted to make sure any person who saw a GT KNEW which company made it. So, they gave you the option of having no stripes at all, but if you wanted the top stripe (and they knew most buyers would) you HAD to get the side stripe, too.

Not really a big deal. A 1/2 with a blow dryer and those side stripes could be history on any of our cars. I've pondered buying an extra set of the vinyl stickers, putting them somewhere safe in case I ever want them back on, and breaking out the hair dryer...

Then I would have a unique car: Blue, no mac, red calipers, wheels and top stripe but NO SIDE STRIPE. Ha!:banana

50, I'm only aware of 1 unique paint job (sonic blue) that actually was a "production car". There was 1 car, PB1-3 painted heritage blue, no stripes, but that was a protype, and was repainted at some point.

Let me know what the other one was.

Thanks :thumbsup

The other one was the prototype you're referring too; some guy in Michigan took camera phone pictures of this car from his lightning on a public road in May 2004. Too bad he can't find the pics of it. Do you happen to have any?

Let's hear it for quicksilver with no mac!

I love your car. If you ever decide to sell it, PM me.

2005 VIN # 88 was quicksilver without stripes, only one I've seen like that. Then again, so is yours...

Counting year, body color, stripes, radio, wheels, and calipers there were 80 one of a kind GTs built. In addition, there were 62 two-of-a-kind, 23 three-of-a-kind, etc. In total there were 623 vehicles with 10 or fewer vehicles built to those specs.

50, I've got a picture of that car right after we built it. I'm looking for it , but I've got thousands of GT pictures, and still have not organized them yet. I'll post it when I find it. :thumbsup

Quickdraw,

I don't think my car is that rare, but can you tell me how many blue, full stripes, wheels, red calipers and NO MAC were made? Most of those traits are pretty common, but the "no Mac" must make it at least sort of unique. Maybe...possibly...

Okay, probably not.:frown

Thanks!

Heritage paint prototype

Here is a picture of one of the prototypes that was painted in Heritage colors:

The sticker says "WH-3", so I would imagine it is the same unit "PB1-3" that GTTech referred to. Doesn't seem likely that a prototype would show up in a Ford production build report.

There's a picture of what appears to be a Heritage Blue car with no stripes in the GT Team History book on page 44 - maybe THAT is the car that has been shown in some of the reports as the second "special paint" car for 2005?

Some of the reports I have seen call out 2 special paint cars for 2005, others only call out 1 - the Sonic Blue car.

Jeff,

I don't think the car in the picture is the same one we built at Wixom. Look at the marker light in front of the wheel. It's mounted on the outside, whereas the production car has a flush mount light. Also, the dash in front of the driver is like the early work horse cars. Rounded, not flat like on production level cars. Also, the hood seems to be held on by quick release fasteners.

The picture in the year book is the one we built at Wixom. I believe the caption on the first picture is a typo. It says "preproduction build # 13". It should be PB1-3. (I didn't put that page together).

:thumbsup

Jeff,
That Gulf Blue was likely #0036 built on 2/20/2004, that and the sonic blue were the only two one-off paint jobs for 2005.
