Rarest GT of them all

Many of us were fortunate to order or find the exact GT we wanted. The desire for a "rare" GT may or may not have influenced the decision, but regardless, there are so many "rare" GT's, who's to say what would be the rarest, and many could care less because we bought what rings our bell.
I think one of the rarest of all would be a McIntosh Only car, regardless of color, particularly is it was 1 of 4,000; however, few if any of us would have given it any consideration. How about a stripes only optioned car? There may be fewer of those than "no stripe" cars. I hope you have or find exactly what you want, that's really the rarest from the standpoint of personal satisfaction.

1 Sonic Blue one. I wish I had it. My Cobra was Sonic Blue. I talked to Salleen at the Rally. I tried to talk him into building a black with gold stripe for his collection. He sounded interested. I don't know if he did it. That would make a Hertz Ford GT-H.

The rarest car out ther is mine. It fits my a$$ just right. I got the car because the car & options did something for me and not for anyone else - although I have to admit I like some of the attention some of the time.

There are approximately 30 Million people in California, probably 15 Million drivers, 20% illegal. If California had 1000 Gts that would make my car very rare on any given day.

I think all this rarety is nice but my car is for me. Having said that, I would trade it for an all yellow. WANNA TRADE DENNIS?

Where is the sonic blue car now?

Some Dealer in Georga was the winning bidder at the Catlemans Barron Ball charity auction for cancer. His daughter was a cancer survivor and he bid like $365,000 for it. The car was built for Chris Theodore but Bill Ford Jr found out about it and said no way so the car was auctioned for charity. It is the car Camilo and Bill Jr are standing next to in the Camillo video I posted the other day.

Sonic Blue GT

The Sonic Blue would have to be the rarest. It is 1 of 1. Add that to the fact that is was built for Chris Theodore, Ex-Ford VP, who is in a big way responsible for the GT being made. Ford would not let him have it. (sour grapes in MHO)

The car was auctioned off by Ford for charity. The lucky owner paid 350,000 for it. Not sure where it is now, but who ever has it, I hope they know what they have.

Ignoring the 2 one off colors in 2005, I think quicksilver no mac or no stripe is the rarest build. 2005 VIN cars without options are rare enough, coupled with quicksilver being the rarest color and only produced in 2005. But it's just my guess.

Man I love that Sonic Blue. One of my favorite Ford colors. Don't get me wrong, I like Midnight Blue, too, but I'd take that shade over mine anyday (a little brighter, so it shows of the GT's lines a little better).

BTW, Phil Marten was largely responsible for the "redirect" on Theodore's GT. He's also the brainiac that came up with lowering the walls between SVT and the rest of the company, and killing the idea of SVT-specific dealerships.

Oh, and after being at the company just long enough to come up with these brilliant ideas, he left.

I could give my unedited opinion of Martens, but that would be unprofessional.

Oh, *%&# it! I'll say it anyway. I put him at the top of the list of people who have damaged Ford in the past 50 years (and trust me, I'm still watering it down BIG TIME).

Looking at some information from Quickdraw, right now I know of only three unique cars - the 2 one off color (I know of the Sonic Blue, what was the other?), and the no option yellow :biggrin I sure like that.

But 50 BMG may be right - more may surface when we look (if we EVER GET THE INFO - THE POWERS LISTERNING?) at things like a one option Quicksilver or something like that. And like some of the other posts, who knows if the "unusual" cars are going to add value. But, I can tell you it is very cool to own a car WHERE THERE ARE NO OTHERS LIKE IT. Don't have to ever worry about seeing yourself on the road (also makes it more difficult to hide, just in case ............... )

50, I'm only aware of 1 unique paint job (sonic blue) that actually was a "production car". There was 1 car, PB1-3 painted heritage blue, no stripes, but that was a protype, and was repainted at some point.

Uniqueness --not necessarilly

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I dont think that is necessarilly or even logically true. Other cars could (and actually do) have combinations of year, color and options that would make them unique. The option free yellow car you proffer might be unique but so would (for example ) be a common white blue car with grey calipers and base radio or similar "unpopular" option/no option combinations . A similar 2006 yellow car with no options save red calipers (which does exist) is also unique .

This uniqueness thing is overrated as the cars (GT) are the same. There are not exactly one or two factory big blocks or ZL1's or Z06 (of the 63 persuasion) out there . Years ago I owned a 68 T top that really really was factory made for Harley Earle. The car had full irrefutable documentation and had pearl paint, odd red stripes, side louvers reversed, "Stingray" side emblems (on a 68) and some other stuff Ive forgotten but under it all it was just a crappy 300 hp powerglide base car.

That is because it was a color not officilally available. That paint also had extra glass in it so it was more striking than the original Sonic Blue.

It's riduculas because it's only paint, not some government regulation crap. This is the legal side of building cars, total BS in my opinion.

########### I don't understand. What legality ? Any number of manufacturers selling USA certified cars in the USA will deliver a new car from the factory with custom paint to the buyers specs that is obviously "not officially available" .

Actually, given the condition of Ford, I can understand how ex management might not be considered worthy of gratis product. Don't think it would be lauditory to own, either ...sort of like owning Ken Lay's ex limo .

I don't disagree. I know the yellow appears to be unique among no option cars, but you are right that there could be single option cars that are also unique. Same idea that 50 BMG proposed. I would imagine the unique cars will be in the yellow or quicksilver, but until someone finally can do the totals for colors and options, we are just open for lots of conjecture.

Nevertheless, it is still nice to own a unique car - no matter which car / color / options it is. I think we would all agree - or else we would not be driving a GT. :cheers

If there was a database with year , ID, color and yes/no to the 5 options
(the 4 standard ones and the stripe delete) it would be trivial to determine the 50 , 60 or more or whatever "unique cars"

IMO a top stripe only option car, perhaps in quicksilver, with the side stripe delete and no other options would have been or is a truly rare one. I was wondering if there were ANY side stripe delete cars with the top stripes?
