FOR SALE: 1943 M4A3 SHERMAN TANK WITH 75 MM BLANK-FIRING LIVE GUN. ONE OF APPROX. 1700 MFG. BY FORD MOTOR CO. BETWEEN SEP 1942 AND SEP 1943. HAS RUBBER CHEVRON TRACKS APPROX. 50%. HAS M34A1 GUN MOUNT IN TURRET WITHOUT LOADER’S HATCH OR PISTOL PORT. ENGINE IS ORIGINAL WWII FORD 1,100CU. IN. WATER-COOLED V-8 MADE ONLY FOR THESE TANKS. THIS WAS MOST RELIABLE ENGINE OF ANY USED IN THE SHERMAN. THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE IS RECENT REBUILD, AND RUNS VERY GOOD. HAS TWO 50-GAL. FUEL TANKS, AND FUEL (GASOLINE) CONSUMPTION IS 2 GALS. /MILE. THE HYDRAULIC TURRET TRAVERSE WORKS. THE MAIN GUN (75 MM) HAS BEEN RESTORED FROM DEMILITARIZED CONDITION TO FIRE FULL-SIZE 75 MM BLANK AMMO. IT HAS BEEN REBUILT SO THAT IT WILL RECOIL THE FULL DISTANCE WHEN FIRING BLANK AMMO, AND AS A RESULT IT CANNOT SAFELY FIRE 75 MM LIVE AMMO. IT IS A LIVE GUN UNDER THE LAW, HOWEVER, AND IS A REGISTERED “DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE” WHICH CAN BE LEGALLY TRANSFERRED TO ANYONE QUALIFIED UNDER ATF REGULATIONS. THIS TANK IS A WORKING TANK, AND HAS APPEARED IN MANY MOTION PICTURES AND TELEVISION PRODUCTIONS. IT WAS ONE OF THE SHERMANS IN THE LATER “RAT PATROL” SERIES; WAS IN A 1967 MOVIE “FIREBALL FORWARD” WITH BEN GAZZARA; IT STARRED IN A BUNCH OF GASOLINE COMMERCIALS (“TIGER IN YOUR TANK”) OF THE SAME PERIOD, AND VARIOUS OTHER PRODUCTIONS UNTIL IT WAS SOLD BY MGM MOTION PICTURE CO. IN 1970. WHILE OWNED BY A PRIVATE PARTY, IT WAS USED IN AN EPISODE OF THE TV SERIES “MASH 4077”, AS WELL AS NUMEROUS COMMERCIALS. IN 2,000, IT WAS SOLD TO MGM FOR USE IN THE MOTION PICTURE “WINDTALKERS”, AFTER WHICH IT WAS PURCHASED BY ME. SINCE THEN IT HAS APPEARED IN EPISODES OF “CONQUEST”, SOME HISTORY CHANNEL PRODUCTIONS, AND THE MOTION PICTURE “FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS”.
