Just a reminder to all the Rally V attendees that Radar Detectors are illegal in the Commonwealth of Virginia. :frown

If stopped by a LEO and they see a detector (even if turned off), they can confiscate the device.

:cheers

How the he!! can they confiscate the device? I can understand a ticket, but confiscation? Do they ship it back to you when you leave the state? Talk about cop nazis!

Sounds like its not a well liked law:

If I am not mistaken speeding tickets are also outrageous, like in the thousands.

Well, I guess I'm glad I've got a 9500 installed. Only thing you can see is a black bar on the rear license and a very small readout just above the steering column.

Now I just have to hope and pray that the 2 days at VIR do not melt the rear wiring again - making it unusable! =)

Do your "speeding" on the track and not on the highway.

I'm glad someone mentioned this. Thanks.
We'll just have to have guys with hidden mounts ride in the front and back of the posse going to VIR from the hotel.

Great thinking and thanks for posting. Most of our VA driving will be in a truck hauling GT's, so the speed limit will likely be adhered to most of the trip.

I will be in trouble then, cause the radar wont be removed.

The mirror is out of a ford explorer. I just removed some of the reflective backing and put the V1 display in there. The tricky part was getting the light sensor to work properly.

If anyone is traveling on Route 301 going through Va. please beware of the Leo's as they love to hammer out of state folks. Keep it no more than 7 MPH over the speed limit or you will get nailed.:ack

Sad, but true--Va Code Section 46.2--1079. Cops can and do take it "until no longer needed". When you cross the state line, there are signs saying radar detectors are illegal.

You also must have a front plate in Va (but not NC) I suspect if the state you come from requires no front plate you are fine. Cock fighting , however is now banned. (so is dog fighting as Vick found out here in his home state) We are coming along but things take time here in the Commonwealth.

Oh, and the liquor stores are state run (same in NC), so no buying a fifth at the conveniance store and no buying hard liquor on Sunday. Are we starting to sound like "Mayberry"? If you run into a problem I know some good lawyers (like the 950 in my firm)

Does Fubar provide services in VA?

I always drive with my radar detector in VA but they may indeed confiscate it. It's better than a speeding ticket. The last time we were there my wife received a speeding ticket. They were kind of nice to her since she had a CA license. I heard they hate New Yorkers!
