I have actually cut my collection down from 50+ posters to the best 25 original, vintage, 60s iconic racing posters.
Once you get into framing you really decide what worth keeping and whats not; as framing is min $75-150/ea.
I did alot of the "retro-style" modern posters, when I first got started; I was just padding the collection and buying left/right.
Also got some that had age/storage wear (yellowing, foxing, mold); once its under UV plexi and against black frame, the imperfections stand out.
Then there the issue of artwork that's somewhat flat, outlined or two-dimensions/or mono-chromatic, that just doesnt pop.
Once you develop an eye, you realize you need:
-Big Size: min 16x27; better 20"x30" or 24"x36"
-Venue: Famous race-car/tracks
-Color: Super Bold, vibrant, vivid colors: yellow, orange, pink, etc.
-Design: Period graphics style (PopArt, Abstract, watercolors etc)
-Views: Car pitched at speed or angle
-Font: BOLD period fonts in title / name
-Media: White Paper condition and no-fading; some original colors are literally neon.
Printing: inks and offset printing they used just cant be reproduced today.
My Spring Cleaning project took on a life of its own as I unloaded 170+ items on ebay (and counting): 30+ posters, 20+ racing/pit-banners, vintage M-B parts, track/event shirts, caps, souvenirs, books, brochures, DVDs, CDs and years of collectibles, and its paid for the framing (and some posters)!
Im not totally cured; found 3 posters on UK/German ebay that i had wanted for years all under $20/ea!
