Nope, racing does NOT need 2 cars. Drag racing - one car can and often does race against the clock. LOL

Here, at 50k over the limit, they seize your car and impound it for a week then charge you 2k+ in storage, then it's an automatic and immidiate suspension of license even before you are convicted, right at the scene and there's not a ****ing thing you can do about it. Oh, and there's a 10K fine upon conviction.

Which is worse? Canada or Australia? I think they are in competition with each other. Canadians are all nice, so I get why they put up with it. Australians are descended from exported British prisoners. Why do they put up with it?

Canadians are nice, maybe, but Quebecers are douchebags. We're bad news (not me, but the hard core French separatists are). Quebec sucks. I hate it here. Going to retire in Florida.

^^^ This. Those seizure laws are Quebec, Ontario and BC, and not all of Canada. But I'm with FBA, Florida seems a nice place to retire. :)

Quite a few Canadians call South Florida home.

Couple of years back, drove my GF (from Montreal) down from Detroit to North Miami during hockey season. After driving +20 hours straight through, opened the door to the house to find about 20 Quebecors gathered around the TV watching a game. No English was spoken. Still in a fog from driving, thought I had been transported back to Montreal somehow....

If you like humidity and mosquitoes, Florida is your place. If you like dry heat, Southern Nevada is your place. We chose the latter. There are lots of other places in the are that share the attributes besides Las Vegas. There is a race track in Pahrump for example. I looked there and there are some superb deals but we wanted to be closer to our friends.

We bought in early Feb and closed last week. I looked on the realtor site and zillow and there is virtually no inventory left now. I think we may have gotten lucky.

Pro is correct. We have no state income tax and no matter where you live you're within striking distance of a beach. Listen I understand that some folks don't like to sweat and I respect that but it's been very exaggerated. I have been born and raised in south fla and have seen how we've changed into an amazing multicultural city and I truly feel the best is yet to come. Real estate is going bonkers again and there's three 1000 foot towers being built that are going to be show stoppers. Miami will change more in the next ten years than it has the last 25. I just wish I could have invested more in real estate lol.

I once was able to get my GT out in January, a few years ago - we had not had snow for a while and the roads were clear. So, I thought, why not take the car out and warm it up, to get the condensation out of the fluids, and get some lubricant swished around the seals, etc. So I drove about 8 miles out of town, heading south on US 395, got down to the Airport Road, and turned to the northbound lanes (it's a divided highway, 2 lanes to each side). With no one coming for at least ½ mile, I stood on it as I entered the northbound lanes. I accelerated as hard as the car would go, up to 65 mph (the speed limit) and backed off to 62 mph to cruise home.

In about 2-3 miles, a CHP caught up with me with his gumball machine glaring and spinning. I pulled over easily, and waited with my hands on the top of the steering wheel (they get a little paranoid if they can't see your hands, in case you might have a weapon) as he approached the driver's window. When he could see me, I rolled down the window, and asked what I could do for him. He asked for my license, registration and proof of insurance, and I told him I would have to exit the vehicle, as those items are stored behind the passenger seat. He said OK, and as I went around the back of the car he said " Do you know why I pulled you over?" I said I had no idea, but retrieved the information slips that he asked for.

He said that he heard (rear exit headers) the car and began his chase, and that I could be considered as violating a code which covers "exhibition of speed." I told him what I had done, and stated that there was no one around to exhibit too, and that I never exceeded the speed limit. Furthermore, I said that I knew of no law which defines how fast one can accelerate to the speed limit, when one is totally alone on the highway.

He then asked what kind of car it is (Ford GT), how long I had had it (6 years), how fast I had driven it (179. 984 at The Texas Mile), and a few other meaningless questions about why did I have the car out, etc. He then pointed out that my left rear taillight (I had had my lights on in the daylight) had a number of the LEDs not lit, although the remaining ones were sufficient to see the car and the turn signal.

He said he was happy to see the car, as he had never seen one before, and for me to have a pleasant journey home.

Wife and I took the FGT to look at a 42' Carver about 1.5 hrs from home. Marina was 45 minutes off highway going through multiple towns on road etc, Speed 65 to 25, we all seen it. Never really pushed it more than 10 miles over anyplace on the trip. V1 was on and wotking. On the way home I knew the road was going to transition from 65 to 35 and I pushed it all the way till the drop in speed limit. Sure enough, no more than 2 minutes later the lights were in the mirror. All he wanted to do was see the car. He took picture with a nice Nikon for at least 5 min of basically every angle of the car. Dropped his belt and even sat in it.... Wife even said to him she expected me to get a ticket due to the way I was pushing it [thanks wife] 10 minutes later back on road... no ticket. Pissed at wife of course.

one thing we all have to recognize is that EP never had that problem unless the LEO's were stalking his garage.....

After tennis a couple of years ago I was returning to the parking lot and there sat a local cop in his cruiser next to my GT. I'm thinking, oh sh*t, no front plate. Nope, he just wanted to chat about the car. Sat in it and took photos. I played tennis for three hours. I have no idea how long he waited!

Getting off topic, I'm seriously considering adding a house in Reno so I can be close to some of the best skiing in the world.

I have a few friends in Reno. They told me there was a track in Reno, not sure if its still operating

I have a few friends in Reno. They told me there was a track in Reno, not sure if its still operating

The track is the Reno Fernley Raceway, and it's about 40 miles east of Downtown Reno.

https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=...5o_k-A&oq=Fernl&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=13&t=m&z=11

The track surface is pretty rough on tires due to the amount of pumice in the mixture. The track has a good layout, with a variety of corners and elevation change. It is not managed well, though, and there are virtually no facilities there. The adjacent area to the track is a bit shabby, although the nearby town of Fernley is growing with warehousing and distribution centers.

Have not read this whole thread so sorry if I am repeating.

I have had good and fun encounters with police at 7/11s , gas stations and other stops. I have also been pulled for no reason but for a gawk at the particular car--the latter I find reprehensible and I am generally a pro cop guy.

There still is a thing called probable cause and it should be adhered to. Also, we have had multiple instances here where cops and folks pulled over have been injured or killed while on the side of the road.
