Anyone else find a good solution for this issue? It just started happening to my car before i put it in for storage...

Spring Problem

its common. As far as popping the hatch, There is a spring you can install instead of the little bumpers that will help.

I ordered a set of these but found that the thread diameter of the mounting stud on the original bumpers is larger than the thread diameter of the mounting stud for the new springs. Has anyone who has installed these springs previously encountered this?

That's correct you need to use a 6mm nut for attachment

As Torrie shared; yes

I have retrofitted many gals with the late style

The process is painless and requires only the two late style springs rather than the fixed point bump stops and two 6mm flange nuts.

I always use a bit of penetrating oil on the originals as they are a swedge lock nut install and I have had a couple where the shafts is; tight and then once removed the late style simply slide into place and then secured by the 6mm nut on the underside.
