Sure it's the history, but the knock on effect of the color scheme built by the same manufacturer has a definite impact on value that far exceeds the color. What is the secondary market value of a "Gulf" colored Prius?
Without doubt the 1968-1969 winning Gulf car is more valuable the than 1967 winning car. The original 1966 car is a different matter, tough call.
Don't get confused thinking that I am saying that a Heritage Ford GT "should be worth more than any other color Ford GT", I am only stating that it is that way and will continue to be so, forever. It is a whole other discussion about whether it should or not and how much that difference should be. These are emotional things, not logical, if it was logical we wouldn't own one at all.
All fun stuff. I'll tell you what, we'll check in in 20 years and if a Heritage Ford GT is only worth $7000 more than a regular color Ford GT, I'll finally put on that latex "Gulf" Ford GT shirt I bought from a past owner (it's on my website) and walk down West Hollywood on a Friday night at 11pm.
