Pre Production Fuel filler door in 'bay

How hard would it be to just remove the existing lid part of the cap..have it engraved and then just re-install it? :willy

Not very difficult at all with the use of an EDM; in fact I thought about this as the thread unfolded.

From my perspective I remain very happy with a plain gas door as I already know she is a GT. The only item of interest was the polished one that was posted earlier. I think that a polished aluminum lid that is allowed to dull aka patina over time would add to the gals performance looks.

Now having shared this; how difficult is it to remove just the lid for this purpose; who knows first hand?

All the best

Removing the lid requires removal of inner fender liner (PITA you have to be careful not the chip the paint on the inside of the fender well), remove headlight, remove wheel (obviously) and remove fender...This is per the GT Guys. Apparently the bolts to the gas cap cover are hidden behind a piece of the frame and you can't get to them without removing the fender.

Thank you Matt

I have read that this was likely the process; I was hoping that maybe the lid could be removed while leaving the bucket. I have never looked at it closely.

For now; I truly like my painted silver matt finished lid.

Thank you again

WARNING,
HAVE YOUR FUEL DOOR SCREWS CHECKED, THE GT GUYS WILL BE COMING TO CALIFORNIA TO SAFETY WIRE MINE. KENDALL AND JAY ARE RUNNING TESTS.
PEOPLE AT FORD ARE NOT RESPONDING TO SMOKE SIGNALS AND SIGN LANGUAGE THAT I HAVE DIRECTED THEIR WAY. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR AND HAVE CONSIDERED TAKING IT TO PIC A PART...

I just noticed while I was watching the Jeremy Clarkson "Good Bad & Ugly" DVD that the prototype GTX1 (painted in orangy-yellow), has the "prototype gas cap". Must of been one of the first cars built, as no other GTX1 appears to have the "prototype gas cap" in all the photos I could find.

I was going to call Genaddi and ask them if they were producing the cap, but then I took a close look at some blown up photos of the original (red, no roof stripe) donor car, and it had the prototype gas cap on it when it was delivered to Genaddi.
