Just trying to see if I am the only one who does not like moon roofs.
Seems every mid to lux car on the dealer lot has one, but I don't want one and that requires a special order.

My reasons.
  1. Hot out I have air on
  2. Cold out I have heat on
  3. Sunny day added interior light bothers me I prefer smoked window to keep light out.
  4. Night time whats to look at while driving?
  5. Vented noisy
  6. Open very noisy
  7. Usually 900.00 option
    1. Adds a lot of weight on the very top where we least need it.
    2. Not as safe
    3. Less head room

Is it just me?
Chime in and I hope some Ford exec sees this and asks the same question.

Even on my new SHO I had to get one or wait 6 to 8 weeks and the only use I can find for it is when its a nice day and not going to rain I can leave it vented for heat build up when parked....of course I get bugs leaves bees and such then.

Now mind you I buy at least 4 and often more new Ford's per year-every year so I am wondering am I all wet?

I cannot stand Moon Roofs or Sun Roofs. If I wanted open air, I would buy a convertible. I think the sun/moon roof, ashtrays, cigarette lighters etc. are all add-ons that manufacturer put in with minimum cost and huge profits. How about those handles that are roof mounted in the back seat or the back seat armrest? They are all useless!

I am waiting for the first in-dash Espresso machine, or a small refrigerator powered by a roof integrated solar cell . Now that I would pay big $$ for.

You're reciting all the reasons I don't like the darn things - and no car of MINE will ever have one...unless it comes "standard" and there's no way around it. No matter HOW one looks at it - they're a hole in the roof!

But, (speaking of being "all wet"!) you didn't mention my main reason: If the darn things malfunction, you & the car's interior are gunna get WET. 'No way around it. They're always gunna puke in a partially opened/closed position and get STUCK there...and you can COUNT on 'em puking in a rain storm (at least around HERE) if they're gunna puke at all!

All that said, WIFEY INSISTS on a moon/sun roof on her cars. She LIKES all the extra light coming in whether the thing is open or shut.

That's because you only get 3 days of sunshine up in your neck of the woods.

'No argument!

But.....................you forgot to mention that I needn't worry about getting wet in a car that's always in the garage anyway.

'Slipping? No COFFEE this morning? 'Getting OLD? Whaaazup?

I don't like them for all the reasons stated!

Now in EP case, I don't see how water would get in anyway unless the roof in his garage has leaks and they would be called a rafter roof.

Gentlemen,

I too have always had to special order many cars to get one without the damn moonroof. I hate them and have never driven around with one open. Veronica wanted one years ago when I bought her a new Lexus RX. 6 months after she got it she was T-boned at an intersection and her car rolled and came to rest upside down with her hanging from the seat belt. She was afraid to unbuckle and fall into the broken glass of the moonroof so she hung there for 10 minutes before paramedics got her out. She actually called me from her cell phone while she was hanging upside down! Fortunately she was not badly hurt.

My business partner crashed avoided a garbage can on the highway. The car flipped over many times and crushed the sun-roof. From the looks of his head, it must of been bouncing on the roadway! The roof was severely caved in, maybe only 1/2 the production height

IMO must better to have a sheet of metal with a headliner, plus some addition headroom.

You actually drink your morning coffee inside your garage parked cars? Who would have guessed!

'Exactly the kind of things I've explained to wifey at least a dozen times. 'May as well have been talking to a concrete wall.

(Edit: That kind of thing is ALSO why I refuse to buy her a convert. But the main reason is there's NO SECURITY of any kind with a ragtop. Eg: All it takes is a jackknife to get at anyone parked/stopped in one of those.)

Love the moon roof on my EXT 'Sclade'! When I take the back window out, it's just like a convertible....but still a truck.

I had to search quite a few dealers to find the combo I wanted with the moon roof.

Are you guys just getting too OLD and crotchety???

I agree! I have no use for a moonroof. My wife's Enclave came with two.....needed a vehicle... had to take it that way. They've never been open since new.

I used to own a auto customizing shop and was a dealer for ASC which is the company that makes most of the power roofs for, what used to be, the big three.
One day I was doing a Lincoln and the dealer kept calling me to say the new owner was a little nervous about the process so I told him to send him over & I would give him a tour of my shop. When he arrived I took him through to the back and he could see his brand new car in the distance. Being the smarta$$ that I am I said "you know I have cut this hole three times and it's still too big". Damn near had to scrape him off of the floor as appatently his humour was different than mine.

I still have two cars with them and although my wife hates hers in her ML I used to use mine all of the time when I drove the T-Bird.

Guess I'm the "odd man out" here - I'm a "convertible" guy - got three of them sitting in the garage -
but, if I have to buy a car with a fixed top, it's GOT to have a hole in it. I ALWAYS get the moonroof. I've had several Mustangs and T-Birds with T-Roofs, which is my second choice beyond a convertible. My dream GT - someday - is, of course, a GTX1 roadster (in Candy Chrome Red, thank you :wink ).

I bet you could customize an LED-TV/enclosure that can come down on the same tracks thus eliminating the sunroof and providing the rear seat occupants a great experience.

An Ipad can do that same thing for much less trouble and money!
