Encouraged by virtually everyone here, I took my youngest son (22) to Markham. Unlike most normal boys, he had zero interest in going . He and his siblings are much more interested in ball and stick sports which they played through college. However, having just graduated, and knowing where his bread is buttered, he tagged along. Turned out the ATP was in town and we got to see Nadal play. Dumb luck for my son.
We arrive at Multimatic on time and the extremely knowledgeable Pearce begins our tour. He looks at my son who is just under 6’8” and is likely thinking “ I hope dad didn’t buy this for you.” Anyway, as we proceed , Pearce is able to answer every dumb question I ask— and there were many. I was struck by the youthful appearance of many of the workers recalling when I was their age I didn’t know what an Allen wrench was.
Having been to a number of factories this one was clearly different. It was much more a NASCAR shop where team members appeared to be preparing cars for upcoming races. In my former life , I represented drivers and this brought back fond memories.
As you know, we were escorted through all the stations with explanations for each. I told Pearce someone should take notes and pictures to replicate the kinds of books that were done for places like the early Shelby facilities. I’m sure they are.
So the day was unforgettable and you tend to leave the experience breathless. As we returned to our rental Kia, my son’s first words on this historical family event were, “ you know, I haven’t seen a Chik Fil A since we got here.”
