A buddy of mine from back east shared some pic's of a neighbors car collection in Philadelphia. He's not a car guy by any stretch of the imagination...but even he was impressed.

Nestled in a small street garage, Dr Fred Simeone has several interesting cars in his collection. I am venturing a guess.... but they appear to be the 1966 Ford GT40 Mk II from Alan Mann Racing #8 that ran LeMans - Drivers: John Whitmore, Frank Gardner, and another LeMans runner, a 1967 Ford GT40 Mk IV - Drivers: Denny Hulme, Lloyd Ruby.

As you will see, he has several unique and prominent examples of other highly desirable cars. I have several of them as well, though mine come in the 1/18, 1/32, and 1/64th scale. :biggrin

Dr Simeone leaves his cars in the as is (as purchased) conditions, but maintains them running if possible (with his 28 yr old female mechanic, Sophie from Germany… (Bony should be so lucky!). He has tried to buy the LeMan’s winning car, or 2nd or 3rd place.

Yes. Neurosurgery used to be one of the toughest specialties to get into, only the toughest surgeon type guys (and the rare woman) went into it. Long call hours, many impossible life-threatening situations. Now it's getting hard to find one that will take call (big liability, no payment). Soon it will be only the big tertiary care centers that have them. If I'm not mistaken, there are only about 2500 board-certified neurosurgeons in the US and the number dwindles every year.

Yup, being a eye surgeon myself I have seen the rapid decline in the "quality" of medical personel in general. Its directly tied to the greed and sheer disregard for a profession that is so sacrificed and gives back so much. The only hope is that soon our government will take action to stop this greed ie insurance companies and the private sector vultures who strip the medical profession clean and work to restore it to the humble profession it once was. When I grew up the physician was considered "the respected leader" and was something kids dreamed of doing. Today ask a young person if they would consider the profession and soon you will get responses like " why would I want to do that" Today our best minds are avoiding medicine and it is the direct result of a insurance industry that preys on doctors and patients motivated ONLY by money. They all claim they stand for quality care but I have yet to meet a insurance industry person or company that can describe to me what they mean by quality care because the facts are that ony the medical professionals provide"CARE" The quality of the care comes from the quality of the professional AND having the means to provide the care. With the means being stripped out of our medical system by those who claim quality care in the name of profits, quality medical professionals are now having difficulty providing quality care and the greed goes on. Our system is severely broken but in the wake of what I see in our politicians and their lobbyist I fear it may never be fixed. I myself see growing overheads, higher liability ins, increases in employee compensation, increases in rent etc. In most industries these growing cost are past onto the consumer, in medicine they are not !!, in fact physicians have been getting riembursement cuts of between 4-8 % over the past 5 years. It is no wonder why physicians are leaving the profession at a alarming rate and there a physician shortages predicted in many specialties. There is a huge influx of multicultural physicians into our system becuase still for them in their culture a physcian is a grand and respected profession. My hope is the the general public will come to realize the truths about our broken medical system and force our politicians to realize the harm our insurace have caused the public and take action.

Kingman, I had the privilege to meet Dr. Simeone at the Radnor Hunt Car Show several years ago. I told him about my recent surgery (as he is a doctor and is on the board at several Philadelphia Hospitals) for a liver transplant. He's actually friends with my surgeon who did my procedure (small world). I kindly asked if it was at all possible to see his amazing collection. He gave me a number to call when I was ready to come down. When I called a few months later and left a message, he called back in a few days, and we spoke at length of cars and people we both new. He even allowed my father and boss to join me. I also asked if friends of mine could join along as well. I told them they too are good acquantiences of the man who recently sold GT103, the oldest GT40 in exsitance. He said not a problem at all.

When we arrived and were walked into the 1st level, I was simply blown away!! An American Undersling?!! I've never even heard of this car. Plus the 2 GT40 race cars, Gullwing, BMW 328s, Auburn race cars, among others!! I was in total shock. All these cars in the middle of Philadelphia, and most people don't know they are here. Then I wondered, where are the rest? He then says, lets walk upstairs.....OK!!!

I walk in and YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!! A Cunningham, an Aston Martin DBAR Race car, Ferrari 250 TR straight fender car. Alfa Romeo Mille Miglia cars, and IMO, the Holy Grail of cars, the "Lost" Daytona, sitting in the corner (among another dozen or so cars I just can't remember)!!! What a day, and what a collection!!! The Dr. is one of the kindest fellows around, and is really approachable when it comes to talking cars. A many thanks for letting me in to see the collection.
