Painted rims vs. Powder Coated Rims??

You can powder coat wheels to be satin black. They have as many powders as they do paint now a days.

Just be very sure if you get powder coat that they use a "low temperature" system. High temperature powder coat will weaken your aluminum wheels as is not recommended by BBS.

Does anyone know what temperature is low temperature powder coating for the BBS wheels?

Powder coating is really for appliances & such. They don't have the look of paint. I have a pair of semi-gloss black powder coated OEM wheels & also a set of painted F430 Scuderia gold colored OEM wheels. There was no way to duplicate the F-car gold with powder coating. Powder coating is industrial tuff (think of your frig!) but other than basic colors I would stick to painting.

Just had a set of BBS wheels powder coated by a company in Indy. Had several variations of black and went with a glossy black. Main thing is the cleaning, they chemically cleaned the wheels to prevent the wheels from warping. I was concerned what heat from track time would do until Saturday. I use the front FGT wheels on my Shelby for track days because they clear the bigger calipers. Ran 5 sessions at Road America Saturday and cooked the front pads, (could not run the last session**!!*#*!) wheels were too hot to touch and the powder coat had no damage. If you have to ship your wheels any way the place in Indianapolis did a great job and I can get you their information.

Can’t wait to get them on one of the GT’s to see how they look.

Metallic, black chrome, matte, etc finishes are all paint territory. You can't do that with powder coating.
