Paint - How Many Coats of Each?

I'm watching the new detailing show on Velocity (they're doing the '67 Ford GT40 MK III at the Petersen) and started thinking about our rides. Does any body know the following;

How many base coats?
How many clear coats?
How was it applied?
Was there any color sanding done at the factory?

I may be dreaming, but I believe someone (Shelby?) has measured GTs paint thicknesses and found them to be highly variable as a result of the manual application.

I believe I heard on a Ford GT documentary that white cars had an extra base coat applied (7) because of the light color...
