Thank you for such an in-depth and comprehensive review. Very well written, I might add. It's a question I have posed for some time. I'm a Porschefile still hanging onto the old 993 air cooled regimen. Old and slow (relatively speaking) I know, but there is a old school sense you just can't get anywhere else. I'm just not sure I will take the GT3 I'm wait-listed on. The FGT has so many personalities you can have a different experience every day! Pearls or blue jeans - she won't disappoint!

Thank you for taking the time to skillfully write an involving and interesting review. I have wanted a 911 my entire life, but turned my attention to the Ford GT as my dream car. The GT is definitely alone in its class, but there is always that wonder. Your review was so succinct and honest, I am reassured, not that I ever doubted, but reassured that my choice was correct.

You know what I love most about the Walter reviews? Is reading the responses on this board vs. the others. You get pretty much unanimous praise of all the cars he reviews on here for their individual strengths. They are what they are and they are great in their particular disciplines. On the other sites, you get that as well, but you always get a few "but but but" comments about the Ford. Draws a line between the car guys and the logo polishers.

Another skillful assessment of the key areas an owner would look for when comparing cars of this magnitude. As I've mentioned before, your reviews are all the more authorititve because you have no agenda other than comparison.

For those with only the GT as their 'mad' car, it's encouraging to see the GT continuing to hold it's ground - better than hold it's ground. The GT stands alongside, often head and shoulders above, European machinery of considerably higher value - a very rewarding experience if you happen to own one!

If you read the replies on Rennlist you'll see they are very fair as well, with a bunch of them desperately trying to score a test drive on a FGT...

And the GT3 RS crowd is not an easy one to please...

I agree. After reading many of the posts on rennlist I thought they were very fair. Certainly a few differing opinions but I have never been in a GT3, let alone an GT3 RS so I would not have any input on it. I was surprised that W.Mitty felt like "fit & finish" was a draw. I would have thought the Porsche would have won that category.

SYCO - If only for a brief respite - buy a Porsche '73 through '98 and get a feel of what the old world was like. Buy it, drive it, sell it! But you will have a bench mark for many other drives! My problem is that I can't get rid of any of them!

What a REVIEW!

Yea, I've got a 911 too, but mine is an 87 Carrera.

It is so primitive compared to the RS that the only thing similar is the engine layout, but the thing is almost indestructable, it has had no engine failures in the 20 yrs I have owned it!

I can only hope my GT is as reliable in the next 20 years.

Tires are huge...PS2's for the GT... I have had the chance to chase GT3's at the track...catch em on the straights, they lose me on the corners with the Goodyears or the HRE comp set up with the Bridgestone REO50's. Hoosiers is a different story...run away from them...until the GT overheats...bummer...have not had the 430 on the track yet...

Can you give me your opinion of how the RE050 compare to the stock Goodyear tires?

Conclusion:

As I have re-read this review, I am dismayed at how difficult it is to give a true and honest comparison of these two magnificent cars. Take either car in isolation, and you will be convinced that you have the greatest car on earth. Drive them back to back and it’s like trying to compare a ruby and a sapphire. They are both beautiful, but what’s your taste? I come away from the exercise with only one clear conclusion: I am pretty confident that I am lucky enough to own two of the greatest road cars ever built.

Great review! I don't know if this was done on purpose, but did you know a ruby IS a sapphire? It's just a red sapphire... I think it makes your point even better.
