almost walked into the web last night
Its the brown recluse that always gets me wondering ....
My wife spent 3 days in the hospital due to a brown recluse bite on her shin. They pumped her full of antibiotics so the bite did not get into her bone. There are a few people here in Florida that have lost a limb because of those spiders.
The picture shown is a "BLACK WIDOW" spider....not a Brown Recluse. Note the red 'hourglass' shape on the abdomen...both deadly.

As an aside, most brown recluse spider bites occur in the crotch. They climb into your pants while they are laying on the floor. When you put the pants on, you get a NASTY bite. There is no antivenom and no real treatment. Some doctors still shoot steroids in the bite wound, but usually ineffective. I've done several autopsies on spider bite victims, and the scarring, if you survive, is unbelievable. OK and TX are the worst places. The venom dissolves tissues (necrosis) and, similar to snakebite, makes your blood hemolyze.
Somelee, thank you very much for the pictures. Photos in textbooks don't do these wicked little creatures justice. Thanks Dr. Frank
I'm not going to sleep....ever! :willy
