Oil Change Notification

Guys,

Did not want to Hi-Jack Redeemed thread but his made me think of something I wanted to work on today.

As I get older the old brain is not as sharp as it once was. At this point I have 8 cars/trucks and oil changes have become a mental workout. When I last changed or had changed the oil in each car. I hate those little stickers Oil Change facilities use. I have several ideas from a small lined notebook for each car to one large lined notebook for them all kept in the garage. I, as Redeemed claims, am lazy, but love to change my own oil. When younger this never was an issue but they all sort of run together now.

What system do you guys use. I know some have many more cars than I do and this must be an issue!

I change them in the same month, then it doesn't make any difference the order. Kind of the same idea as changing smoke detector batteries.

I keep complete histories in a spreadsheet with reminders in my Outlook calendar. Then again, I only have 3 cars....

Eight cars plus one motorcycle. Oil change once a year, all within a week, with complete record of mileage, oil type, filter type and brake pad condition.

The toy cars I change at the same time once a year, 'same as 'Tipo'.

The two 'drivers' tell me when they need to be changed (electronic nannies)! But, even with those, I pull the dipstick once in a while and, if the oil looks dirty, I just change it regardless. (Of course, some cars don't have a dipstick these days(???!)...a stroke of pure genius in my opinion [NOT]...so, unless one wants to make a mess by pulling the drain plug, taking a peek at the oil in one of those 'ain't' possible.)

Calendar alerts on the cellphone are best. You can even set the alerts to repeat based on a certain time frames.

Just don't use an iPhone, the batteries run down fast :lol

I keep a notebook on the GT. Front of the book has my notes on modifications, track settings and different tire characteristics - back of the book has notes on oil changes, filters changes, and other maintenance issues. I figure if I ever part ways with the car it will need to be detailed enough to help the next owner navigate thru the car.

I also stick a piece of painters tape on the inside of the cabinet that I keep the oil and filters in that has milage and dates on it.

Most of the car manfacturers have websites to help you track this. Get on, register your cars, and they should send you updates. I've done this with all my Fords.

Same here. Well actually plexiglass and a grease pencil. I use an Excel spreadsheet as a record of past oil changes.

I reset the trip odometer after changing the oil and go based on mileage.
