Hi all,
We had a great time. Sorry to not be in touch, we had no cell reception even though most did. One of those things I guess. I wish you all could have been to this one, it was really fun and a lot of wild things happened as you have been reading. I was worried after the first day about being able to run because I tried to really get after it on the start and my stock clutch was not happy. I was fortunate to not have roasted mine to the extent that Matt did, really a bummer... in any case, the clutch recovered well enough to keep inching up the speed. I got past 210, my first goal and turned her over to Monica. She wanted to break 200 in Texas as her first goal and then maybe 205. Her first run was 201.3 and then went back to hit 204.1. Saturday I worked up to mid teens but it was too busy, too windy and we decided to watch the show.
Unfortunately, I was too tentative on the early Sunday morning run that seemed to be the best shot for the weekend on a cool - little wind run. I made a 219.1 run. Aloha GT had put in a specacular 220+ run and it was so cool! Mullet ripped a 224+ and I was inspired. I decided I was probably going to have to replace my clutch anyway so I would give it another shot. I couldn't launch hard because of my clutch but really concentrated on good shifts, I made a slight hesitation between 4th and 5th and felt the boost drop... 219.4. This just made me so pissed even though I was really very happy. One little mistake on my part cost me that 220! One more try I thought. I went out again with a pretty strong cross wind and just focused on clean shifts with as hard of acceleration I felt she would handle. I watched the tach and the rpms were a bit higher but I really thought it was clutch slip. I came up to the timer and he was shaking his head, crap I thought. Then he handed me the slip[ and 221.5 WAHOOO!!!! The clutch held together and now Monica's turn to break 205... She gets all suited up and gets to the line and she had her own audience and people asking to take pictures with her etc... Any way she does a casual start and pics it up down the line to 207.4, the crowd at the starting line goes wild. I'm thinking this is not fair... (I was really very proud). Then she comes right back down saying how fun this is and lines back up. 209.8!
This was really a special fun event because of all the great GT guys there at this event - many that came without cars just to root others on! We had such a great time. A really special thanks to Kendall and Ryan that stayed over just to will me past 220, I know they missed their plane just to watch my last run. Aloha GT, Miles, Cliff, you guys are the best!
