My big concern that started me looking for alternates (ended up with Bridgestones and love them) is that Goodyear has not made a production run in years and the best I could find at Tirerack was tires that are 5 years old. That is too old for me to be comfortable.

Derry-

I understand and agree with your post as to the age of GY tires now available to us. A five year old tire is uncomfortable to be mounting now as a "new" tire. I was able to find a rear set that were only a few years old, but I had to look hard to find them. But the Goodyear tire as Shadowman so eloquently states IS a good tire. Thanks, Bill.

Any tire/wheel combination can be optimized for a specific driving category. The FGT design team could not offer a singular purpose tire as the OE offering had to be "good" at every possible driving condition to which a GT driver might expose his (or her) car. High speed, high/low temperature, dry/wet surface at high/low temperature, snow, mud, ice, track events, noise, etc.,etc.

For owners to disregard with prejudice their OE Goodyears as lousy tires tires, speaks volumes as to the owners lack of basic understanding to what was involved in selecting the tires offered by Ford for our GT's.

Parenthetically, I do not work for, nor have any affiliation with, Goodyear.

100% correct, but for the majority of owners that will never drive their car in the wet, snow, ice, or mud, other choices may be more suitable. I remembering hearing all the talk about how bad the GY were, but to my surprise the 1st time I took the tires to the limit they worked much better than I expected, good grip (1+ g lateral) and predictable at the limits. I am sure many other street tires will have better grip (RE50, PS2, etc) but given they were not designed for the FGT, their performance at the limits of cornering are likely to be less balanced than the GYs. The key thing is to understand the differences and drive accordingly.

Parenthetically, IndyGT has less time on the track than anyone else here but Pockets. We'll see in a week or so.

Nice post Ice, and I agree with you 100%!

Frankie,
Track time in a Ford Flex or Lincoln Navigatior hardly qualifies as "track time" in your log book!
You are right, we will see if the "experience" you gained in the above vehicles in any way translates to your driving finesse of a GT next week. The race is on....

Jeff, IndyGT, DriveBy, BigInchBlake and I will be at AutoBahn raceway on Monday, June 7th thru an organization called MVP Racing.

More to follow on June 8th. This event has been overridden by the LeMans stuff.
