...and I seem to remember there was also some speculating about whether the oil in the K&N filters messed up the GT's intake 'sensors.

Empty, I remember that as well. Oil in the K&N caused the MAP sensor to malfunction.

"I agree totally about supporting the sponsers however in this case there seams (sic) to be a problem with the OEM filters."

Lorenzo, I do not concur with your assumption. We are aware of the problem Brian chronicled here on the Forum with the air filter gasket but I do not know if a definitive root cause was ever determined. Certainly opinions were thrown out.

Can you amplify for us what the OEM "problems" are?

OK I knew this might stir up some things.. In a nut shell i got concerned after reading about the airfilter that went through the blower on another members Gal. About a month prior to that thread i had changed my original's with another set of OEM Ford filters so being the courious type i removed them again after less then 500 miles just for an inspection and found that the edges had already began to fall apart after only a month of use. During the process of taking pictures to post on the forum in my thread "Preventative Maintance Saved me" they just fell apart completly. I really think i was just a few miles away from haveing them sucked right into the engine, We will never know. Like i said perhaps this was an isolated case and i got a pair from a bad batch or whatever but the two things i know for sure after all of this is that the ones in the car now {Fram} are not falling apart and they even feel differant when i inspect the edges, Secondly other people have had the same problem with the OEM Ford filters.

Hey, good to know and we need more owners observing these types of issues to post up. (And perhaps you already have and I was just not aware of your post) As I stated I did follow on Stormcat's experience but was not aware others had either had or almost had a similar experience.

And I agree too, that perhaps it is/was a bad batch of OE filters produced. One post compared the "new" OE filters to the units originally shipped in his delivered GT and mused they looked different. Perhaps Ford has resoursed these filters to another vendor from the original production run. I do not know.

But your observation is important and valid data. I took the advice of this thread and did order two of the Fram units. I have not replaced my original filters yet but will do so shortly. Plan to hold on to them for future comparison with "new" filters.

Thanks for the information!

I am curious about this too. After reading of the OEM unit coming apart and entering the intake I have been wondering what else is out there.

.

I've been using the K&N setup since switching to the Whipple, and I continue to use them with my TT setup. Fit in the stock airbox is not exactly like stock, but with a little finagling, they are OK. I've used them in most of my cars for years, and as long as you don't over oil them, your MAF's should be fine. I've never had a problem in 15+ years of using them.

K & n 33-2317

I would use the AFE 30-10100 or 31-10100 filters over the K & N 33-2317 filter!!! They have MORE surface area that the K & N filter. The AFE 30-10100 is a OILED type and the 31-10100 is a OIL LESS type filter.:thumbsup
