The wheels were used well before that Ferrari. I believe Shelby used a version of them in the 60's...
I had a 1975 Datsun 260Z that I put these wheels on and it really improved the look of the car and reduced wheel weight as well.
My first recollection seeing these wheels was on the Ferrari that Selleck drove in Magnum PI.
