These were handtite on my car also...what are they for ?

They hold the rotor on the car before the wheel is put on. Once the wheel is on and torqued to the proper specs, the bolts have no mechanical purpose. (With the wheel on, the rotor is held by the torque of the nuts on the lugs.) Perhaps a little embarrassing for Ford that several GT owners have found that the bolts have backed themselves out, but no safety or mechanical exposures are present.

I just installed HRE wheels and mine were loose also....what is there actual function ??

Re-read the post directly above yours. It explains that it holds the rotors on and that's it. Its a finger tighten bolt, which means it loose.

It is a total non-issue unless you didn't notice that one fell out and got stuck in a brake caliper when you had the wheel off.
