All nostalgia aside, I agree that a V6 could easily be modeled into a Supercar/Exotic. Technology is certainly in a different place now than it was 10 short years ago. The only constant in the world is change.

(Nostalgia less aside) However like the GT40, my initial love for the 2005 GT began with it's "Made in America" tag. It will be impossible to get that badass, get out of my way, eat your little car for breakfast, low compression-big displacement GRUMBLE that makes American sports cars so identifiable from a V6. I'm not sure they will be able to get that sound with turbo's in the mix even with a V8 and form that standpoint the V8 will be sorely missed by me. I like the 'attitude' that comes with piloting the thunderstorm that is an American V8.

If Ford does choose a V6, I'm sure it will impress. At $400k, it will be far out of my reach.

I find it funny that some of you are saying you wont buy a GT if its V6. If the new GT comes out with a V6 and starts kicking ass, 90% of you nay sayers will be lining up.

In this day and age you cant discount technology. Look at the GTR. No matter your feelings on the car, you cant deny the performance of something that heavy with a TTV6. It is border line unexplainable.

I have owned a Ecoboost pick up and I promise you IF they get it right the GT is going to be awesome. In addition to that it will be a totally different platform therefore it will increase the value of the 05/06 GTs. I call that a Win/Win. Sign me up for a Heritage and a solid black:thumbsup

It'd have to be mighty spectacular to be 400k and if so no one will care if it's a V6. I'm thinking a major wow factor with 918 type performance. 458 Speciale beating performance won't be enough. I bet it's going to be a monster

Pete, the CGT is definitely a Supercar, it has the best sounding and free revving 5.7 liter V10. Yes, the rest of the package/components are important. However, for argument sakes, what is the current V6-based Supercar? None, really. With the only possible exception, the Porsche GT2 is quite close and could be viewed, from a performance viewpoint only, as a Supercar.
I erred, I was thinking GT2 and crossed that up with the CGT. I still think of the GT2 as a supercar, and it's 6 cylinders. So are the 911 turbo models. But I suppose the definition of a supercar is subjective.

Ford is thinking 2022, not 2015. V6 twin turbos will be the KING OF THE HILL by 2022, if we still drive cars.........2.0 will be the norm for everyone else.

Don't strangle the car in the crib by suggesting it will have a TTV6 simply because of CAFE standards which are 7 years away. Efficiency is certainly a relevant factor, but only to the extent it helps put Ford in the LeMans winner's circle again. The production car will be produced in small enough numbers to have virtually no effect on CAFE. All indications are that the new Ford is part of a max racing effort and the decision to use the TTV6 is based on its performance potential. It would be unfair to say the car is compromised or hamstrung because of fuel economy considerations. It's debut on the 50th anniversary of the 1966 GT40 1-2-3 win at LeMans shows how serious Ford is about campaigning the car. Ford picked the best engine in its arsenal for this purpose.

But, the 'bottom line' truly was the bottom line there, no? It was a MPG/HP/torque/regular gas/$$$ decision more than anything else, was it not?

I'd wager MPG & regular gas aren't really major considerations for supercar buyers (forget the government. Buyers). My guess is 'sound' would even have a higher priority for them.

I seem to recall several FGT owners here who were none too happy about a similar comparison being made (by Clarkson and others) regarding the present FGT engine. (Remember Clarkson saying the FGT engine "...came out of one of Ford's 'peekup' trucks"?) So, whereas P/U owners may crow, there's evidence owners of new GTs likely wouldn't....especially since (as with the FGT's engine) the similarities, of necessity, would only be 'skin deep'.

'Just my $00.02 onnit... :wink

See my reply to GTJOEY's post. I suggest that putting the TTV6 in the production car is based on the fact that it was first chosen as the best engine for the race car, not the other way around. It certainly wasn't specified for the production car because of fuel economy targets.

My comment above referred to the reason buyers' decided to order that engine in their trucks...not why/how Ford decided to make the engines available.

The Ecoboost option is more expensive than the V8 and gets only marginally better fuel economy. Why do you think buyers are opting for the TTV6?

Perhaps because they simply like being able to say their truck has twin turbos? That could be a status thing for some. Or, 'could perhaps be a 'compensation' mechanism...ya know? :wink You'd have to ask them!

As for my own darned self, I'm firmly entrenched in the V8/V12 camp (be they TT, N/A, or S/C) out of personal preference established long ago for a number of reasons.

I'm old school...in more ways than one. :eek:ld:

They like the ECO boost because it goes like hell and pulls a trailer like it isn't there. I have had (3) F-150's with ECOBoost V6's and am about to take delivery on my 2015 with ECOBoost. The engine is incredible, quiet and terrific low end acceleration with or with out an 8000 lb trailer attached. If the new GT is as fast as I think it will be, who cares what the drive train is composed of. The V6 can help offset the weight of batteries, motors and controllers.

What are you saying - my truck has twin turbos and I don't classify it as an EGOBoost :biggrin
I agree on all the rest tho.:thumbsup

Not sure I agree. If you haven't dumped that Sonic Blue, I would do so now. I am moving my Heritage quickly, and pretty sure I can get on the 16 list, or so I've been told.

I'm not a betting man, never was, but where Ford is going is 2022, Its two different worlds. I/WE bought our 05/06 for so many reasons from childhood dreams to success in business and so much more.
The new car if correct, is for a NEW breed of worldwide buyers . Or primarily a younger group. Yes if the price tag is correct that people are quoting, 400 grand many young people will not be able to afford it, but, their dream one day is to own it, so they start with a fusion and a hopped up 2.0 then to an explorer when they have kids and if they become successful enough one day....to own the dream.
We all have other cars, you should hear the Aston groups with Mercedes making the engines soon , they are complaining that if the new Aston isn't 12 cylinders its not a Aston. So out of touch, a new 2.0 turbo and diesel , from any manufacturer will come real close in horsepower and weight to power ratio, forget reliability and 4 times the gas mileage.
My hope is that this isn't more PR than reality, like what Jaguar did at LeMans with Gentillozzi. A PR nightmare not making 1 lap at LeMans on the anniversary of the DTYPE. They paid dearly for it....the press build up was great but they didn't spend ONE BILLION DOLLARS in testing to run and it showed.
So as always, I wish Ford all the best, we shall see, DBK I thought I saw a LINCOLN LT prototype on the road last year. Is that coming? Im in.......130,000 0n my 06 LT the best vehicle ever owned all round.
