New Shifter From Mmp.....need Help With Some Ideas!!!

We are currently working with B&M right now to have the short throw shifters made for us however we are thinking of changing a couple of things on them.

First we are anodizing the blue part black. This doesn't really have anything but changing what it looks like cosmetically.

Second we are shortening the handle length. We are doing this as many are complaining of the length with a factory shift ball. This will eliminate anyone having to purchase a shiftball that has been modified to bring it down to a lower point. Not trying to step on Jay's toes however we feel the $449.99 price for the shifter is high enough without having to buy another $300 shift ball for it so you get the feel you want.

Another thing we were thinking about changing was the color of the shaft to be an hard anodized black. Looking for opinions on that as we are not 100% on that change as of yet. What do you guys think about that? Again this is cosmetic only but looking for opinions either way. Silver or black are our options.

B&M has told us that Ford Racing does not have any on order with them currently so unless they went to a new supplier to have them made, which I doubt they did, they will not be available from Ford Racing any longer. We still have the originals on order with Ford Racing currently however the 2/12/07 is an estimated due date and we all know what happened to the original due date when the shifters were b/o'd before. It kept getting bumped up to the next month and then the next month, etc.
We will have ours available in the middle of February and are compiling a list of orders currently so if you would like to get on it please let us know.

I would say changing the lower parts to black should go unnoticed. The black shaft may show scratches over time. The black contrast may be good or bad depending on your taste. I personally like a little color. I would like to see one with a blue shaft. I've been know to have a little ricer taste.:biggrin A person could always paint the shaft before installation, so silver or natural would be the safest way to go. Lowering the shaft or using a longer threaded section to lower the stock ball is a great idea. You shouldn't have to buy another part after purchasing the new shifter.

A couple things regarding Jay's shift ball:

1) It eliminates that hideous jam nut on the bottom of the shift ball.
2) The newer design (at least the one I received a few months ago) has a cobalt-nickel finish which matches the stick quite nicely.

IMO, those things alone make it worth the $300.

I think making the stick shorter is definitely right,
I think if blue or black down under is indifferent
I think the stick definitely should not be colored. scratches, look, it all becomes in the end just a open can of worms for you. Keep it original looking.

I think the shaft should be silver, no interest in black. Shorter is fine. I want the thing to shift like a honda s2000

Looking forward to when you can deliver, as I am on the "list" thanks, Andy

The shorter main shaft seems to be a good Idea to me as well... I would also change the color on the main bracket to differentiate it from the Ford unit... not sure on the shaft color... matte black or silver would seem to be good choices...

I'm also interested in a different style shift knob... not sure what kind though, the current one gets kinda' warm once you sit outside at a car show all day (Mid America/Tulsa/100+*):wink

I agree on the knob being a problem. It's freezing cold in the winter and burning hot in the summer. Some other material choice would be nice.

But if that's the worst issue I have with this car I guess I'm pretty happy!:biggrin

So I think this will be the final colors:

Base: Anodized Black

Materials attaching to base: Matte Black

Shifter Handle: Silver (like Ford Racing)

We will be able to do custom colors also for an additional cost if anyone would like.

Anyone who is interested in one please pm or email us your full name, email address and phone number so we can put you on the list.

Also, anyway that you can get rid of the exposed nut?

The exposed nut is the by product of the OEM shifter ball design. This is one of the cool features of the modified OEM shifter ball that Jay at GTSaver.com sells.

Some say that it is a bit pricey however once in your hands and even more importantly in your gal you will wonder why it was not installed sooner.

It is truly a very nice piece

I put my hand on one of Jays balls everytime I drive mine. Smoooooth and no unwanted nut in the way. Before you say no, come on over to the other side and give one a try.

Syco GT - With the new shifter you will be able to eliminate the nut.

Thanks for the update Jack. Looking forward to the new shifter! I'm planning to have the GT Guys install it when I drive up north first week of April.
