Cool Plate...

You would not believe what I had to go through to get TT GT in Montana... they said it was profane and meant titties... I explained that I had GT TT in Texas and no one thought that here... I was told that people in Montana just think a little different, thats all :cheers

ya apperantly they think about titties alot.:cheers

True Story:

One nice sunny socal day aout 15 years ago, I was ripping along at 80mph+ Southbound on I-5.... following behind another driver doing the same. The speed limit was 55mph. A CHP car came across the I-210 merge bridge and saw us passing everyone as he merged on to I-5 in pursuit. He came over the loud speaker and instructed me to follow him to the side of the road as soon as he pulled my "friend" over in front of me. He pulled us both over using the I5/405 bypass for those of you who know this area. We both got tickets for 80 in a 55. (I didn't know the driver in front of me.)

I decided to fight the ticket - as I had a very good idea that I could win.

Several weeks later I am in court listening to how frustrated the Judge is becoming with people not following his instructions. The prosecution presents their case - you have a chance to question, and then you have the opportunity to take the stand (but not required). My esteemed peers, aka "the accused", couldn't keep these simple rules in mind and kept speaking out of turn and getting the Judge angrier and angrier. Then my name was called. And, yes, I was nervous. The Officer was sworn in and he did a relatively decent job of describing the events but he glazed over some details about pacing time and distance. (Note: The CHP in California if not using radar are REQUIRED to pace you. A professional estimate of your speed is not allowed.) Then it was my turn to cross....

I asked the Officer if he remembered where he finally pulled us over at. With some help, he remembered that he had pulled us over on the by-pass route for the I405..... and I knew I would win the case.

I asked the officer how fast he was traveling immediatley before he saw us. He didn't want to answer very straight which irked the Judge because he finally had a defendant following his rules (using the cross). The officer finally replied, 55mph. Then I led him to say he had to increase his speed to 80 (several seconds elapsed), then he had to pace us (he claimed for 1/2 mile), then he had to close the gap and tell me to pull over, then he had to tell the person in front of me to pull over. Perfect.

Then I produced a photocopy of a Thomas Guide map and handed it to the officer. I asked him the distance between the 210 merge and the 405 bypass where we were pulled over. As memory serves, it's about 1/2 mile.

Then I just asked one question, "Was there really any time for you to pace my vehicle for 1/2mile as you had said you did?" (Note: He had exactly 1/2 mile to catch us, pace us, pull one over, catch the other, pull her over..... no way to do that in 1/2mile.) No further questions.

The Judge had a slight smirk on his face. He then asked if I would like to take the stand. I replied that with all due respect to the court and the Judge, I would decline to take the stand. This brought a broader smirk to the Judges' face.

(You see if I take the stand and the Prosecutor asks me if I was speeding, then I would have to say yes. Essentially the case wasn't about if I had been speeding or not - it was about if I had been legally caught.)

The Judge pondered only for a second or two before dismissing the case. He mumured something like, "well done" and I headed for the rear exit. "Mr. Pond, just one moment please." Uh oh!!! "I see your license plate here. For the benefit of those people here in my courtroom today, can you clarify what the plate stands for?"

Oh crap, think fast... "Uh, your Honor, for the purposes of the court here today that license plate, uh, stems from an old nickname of mine, Andy-Two-Speed". The Judge laughed so hard I thought he was going to split a gut. Clearly he know exactly what the plate, AND2SPD had intended.

I'm not lying. True story.... and thankfully the last time I was in a courtroom.

thats great improv, under the gun no less. great story,

I learned that somtimes if you joke with the officers they react a bit more favorable. once i ran a red light and the officer pulled me over and asked me why did you run the red light?. didnt yount see the red light? in a very polite tone i told him that yes i did see the red light, but i just didnt see him. he just about fell on the ground from laughing so hard. then let me go with a warning.

:lol

The cop got out of his car and the kid who was stopped for speeding rolled down his window. "I've been waiting for you all day," the cop said. The kid replied, "Yeah, well, I got here as fast as I could." When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a ticket.

Who would know that and you would have to get it down to 7 characters in TX.

I don't like vanity plates since it makes it way easier to remember who passed someone at a high rate of speed. If it was ever necessary to do so.

Here, doesn't much matter - vanity plate or no; I believe I have the only Heritage in the State. "Uhh, yes, Officer, it was the other blue & orange car with the number 4 on it..."

Out of the dozens of cars I've owned over the past 30+ years, the FGT is my first (and likely last) with a personalized plate. Just couldn't resist.

ok as you guys know i got my car a while back and since have been thinking of getting specialized plates for it. I am not a big fan of vanity plates, i have six other car and none have vanity plates, but i figured if any car should, it would have to be the GT.

so today i got my plates; before i tell you what my choice was let me give you the reasoning behind it. In the days when the hemi engine use to rule the day they were refered to as the elephant motors, and according to some of my older friends who used to street race back in those days they were unbeatable until they started to hop up the little chevy motors. the crowed favorite seemed to be a high reving 327 which could beat the big elephant hemi motors, so they called it the mouse motor, elephants are scared of mice. then when they started building the big block chevys they were refered to as rat motors. rats bigger than mouse. so my choice simply was STRYC9.

i hope you guys like it.

i also like the fact that most people wont know what it means

Made the pharmacological interpretation as soon as I saw STRYC9, and like it. :thumbsup However, don't think I would've ever made the mouse/rat motor connection without your explanation. Probably would've just thought to myself that the FGT is as deadly as poison or something like that.

In any event, it makes for great story telling. Good show.

surprised that so many ford fanatics would not have gotten stryc9, or that it was rat poison. Well here is anther shocker. ever thought how and why the name COBRA came into the ford's vocabulary. what is a cobras primary meal?............... mice. its no surprise that the name cobra has more of a connotation toward the linguage of the day refering to rat/mouse motors, than just a cool name given to some fords.:thumbsup

Blast from the past....Here are a couple Top fuel Funny car Drivers.

Don the Snake Prudohme...The Snake is the Mouse/Rat killer
Tom The Mongoose McQwen.....Mongoose is the Snake killer

Forgive the spelling..but in the late 70's the drag racers had nicknames that fit the theme you described.

thats correct but we dont talk about the chevy motors being rat motors anymore and i cant remember the last time i heart mongoose it relation with cars, but cobra remains a prevelant name in the ford arsenal, so i guess ford won that battle.:biggrin

Not to mention a really cool hotwheel drag race kit, I remember playing the "Snake and the Mongoose" races for hours on end with my brothers.

Saw the NHRA Winternationals last Friday and got to spend some time with two time Champion Larry Dixon who races for the Snake.

Hey Chris,

Last I checked it was 6 characters in TX. You get to use the outline of Texas as a spacer, but only get a combo of 6 letters or numbers. Hence my plate's NZO*BTR instead of ENZOBTR. If I was into rat poison, I'd get plates that said DECON.

Sorry, I still don't get it?

I don't get it either. I have a hard time figuring out one of my own plates, "GULF GT". It must be all the Maker's Mark Manhatans Bony I have had together.

Yep, remember the Snake and Mongoose well and also understand the Cobra moniker. The dots are now well connected, thanks.

I used to live in Okinawa for several years and caged Habu (snake) and mongoose fights took place all the time. (Mongoose usually won).
