Hello fellow GT Forumistas. New proud owner of a 2006 Red 4 options GT with 24k miles. Been a lurker on the forum for a few years while looking for my GT.
As a 60s child I had a modest matchbox collection. My favorite cars were a golden Miura and a white with blue stripe GT40. I had not heard about or seen The Italian Job nor had I ever heard of LeMans either. Something about those two shapes that just spoke to me. Fast forward 35 years when Ford reintroduced the GT in 2005. I couldn't buy it for financial and logistical reasons due to constantly changing work locations. But the itch and dream of owning one only grew more intense with time, especially when seeing the car in person and driving it (thanks Marv Rose) and reading about all the fun long term owners seem to be having with the car and it's solid build and reliability. One thing for sure I didn't want to pay a premium for a low mileage car that I intended to drive. However, the car had to be in excellent condition and unmodified. When Shelby Smith told that he has a one owner car that looks and drives like new, and that it is in excellent condition, and that it comes with everything from new I immediately and without hesitation pulled the trigger sight unseen based on all the good reviews I read about him and his operation on this forum and the way he came across on the phone. I don't make this kind of purchases often if at all, but somehow I felt comfortable making the deal with Shelby over the phone.
After buying the car and with some research I was delighted to find out that the original owner has been a long term forum member and Ford car enthusiast who lovingly cared for the car, kept it all original, and like me, was not into tracking.
Thank you Ford GT Forum, Shelby, Ed, and Marv for helping me make one of my childhood dreams become reality.
