Thanks so much for the update Ralphie. That is some amazin engineering going into building it. That is some gap they are going to fill the two sides with....some kind of expansion joint plus concrete I assume. I especially like the pic showing the little ramp across he gap and it looks like a person working in the gap. It would be great to go across in a convoy of GTs....before some Ferrari or Lambo club does it.

I've flown over it a couple times...'haven't done the 'ground view' thing yet. 'May hafta drive over there for a look-see when 'in 'Vegas next time.

(Edit: 'Anyone know if there's a chopper "tour" outfit flying outta 'Vegas that buzzes over to the Hoover area?)

Does anyone know if this will be open for traffic early November? I will be at the SEMA show this year and I may make a trip out to see the new mega bridge.

Looks like it - According to their site, it should be complete in October...Don't know when they will open it to the public...

Looks like the bridge is now open so while I am in Vegas for a week a trip over the new bridge is a must.

The Federal Highway Administration, in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), officially opened the new segment of US 93, formally known as the Hoover Dam Bypass. Traffic began flowing on Tuesday night, October 19, 2010.

The video is pretty cool. In the second half you can see the water level go up and down, and also the shadows cast show the passing of the seasons. One thing I don't understand is the appearance of the suspension cables over the arch, and then their sudden disappearance. It's cool to document the project this way.

Once the two spans were connected and stabilized, the need for the cables holding them was no longer necessary. This is why arches have been used for thousands of years.
