I may have a line on ordering up a new GT 350R and wonder if getting the one option of Tech Package, which adds 130 lbs for A/C Sterio, and nav...from a comfort standpoint I like it.. from building the car right stand, not sure?

What is your main intended use for the car? Even if you track it a ton, and only drive it on the street 10% of the time, I would say go Tech Package. So, no A/C without this package? That alone would make the choice easy if it were my decision.

If weight is your concern, I'd bet you could get aftermarket A/C, but the cost of that might be more than getting the package and taking out the radio and putting it in a box in the garage.

The high temperatures are in the 90s in Salt Lake City. Get the A/C. If you want to be tough, race a Cobra on bias ply tires.

That's a great idea!! I'm going to submit that as a cost saving idea. Real racers should be able to manage fast laps on bias ply tires.

Pay extra to have ac and radio not installed. Then pay extra to have the ac installed, because unless you're Inuit you'd be crazy to not get ac. BUT! To get the ac, you have to pay extra for 100 lbs of radio that you don't want, so you pay to have that yanked out.

Interesting comment Andy. Knowing your love for speed and tracking.....what would YOU order??
As SFSDFGT correctly points out, it really does turn on what you want to do with the car. Little use on the track with runs to the car shows and ice cream with resale ever present probably favors ordering the tech package. For those who want to use all the performance the car can deliver, and curb weight is a BIG factor on the track for both acceleration and decelereation, then do not order the tech package.
(I would most likely order with out the A/C as several of my track friends are opting for, but that is just my taste):biggrin

Bill, I THINK, I would be one of the very few percent that didn't get AC (who knows). I almost never use AC period, in any car, and with that engine exhaust note, the radio would NEVER go on (GT in 11,xxx miles radio has only been on literally twice). Live in New England, so not dealing with Florida or AZ summers. Lastly its in keeping with the other 2 "R" cars we have of radio and AC delete.
now I just need to arm wrestle with the dealer over the added ADM makrup

Rex, you left off the important 62 lb., two-piece steel driveshaft which the GT350 and R both have.
Seems like "low hanging fruit" to me but everyone seems tight lipped about why this system continues to be used in the two highest performance Mustangs...

There's a huge heat wave in California, Nevada, Arizona (Phoenix was over 115° today), New Mexico, and Texas.
Today, I drove through Las Vegas (106°), and Kingman (102°) and on to Flagstaff. I'm, on my way to a convention in Dallas, heading across into New Mexico tomorrow.
I'm driving my '66 Mustang fastback with no AC, just as I've driven it across the Mojave Desert for years! Roll the window down, open the wind wing window, and push on the Go pedal!
All this chatter about AC - you don't need it - they didn't have it on Conestoga Wagons, and they made it across the country!
And I agree with Andy - keep the weight to a minimum. Hell, a GT350-R is not a street car, it's meant to race. If you don't race, buy the GT-350.
PS - if you buy an R and don't race it, you're keeping someone who will put it on the track from owning it!
